With just days until the I’m A Celebrity final airs on ITV, the much-loved series has been hit with a coronavirus outbreak. Bosses are reported to have ramped up safety measures with the crew now required to wear face masks on set. An ITV source confirmed “production team members have tested positive for coronavirus” and strict protocols are in place.

Jill Scott, Owen Warner, Seann Walsh, Mike Tindall and Matt Hancock are the remaining stars in the I’m A Celeb camp.

The group of five will be whittled down to just four as the semi-finalists will take part in Celebrity Cyclone on Saturday evening.

To ensure everything goes smoothly in the days running up to the final, ITV have ramped up Covid safety measured.

An insider explained everyone was on “high alert” as the series is so close to the end.

The source shared: “The producers have grand plans to make the final bigger than ever so no one is seen without a mask and there have been loads more people queueing up to get themselves tested on site.

“The team also closed down the night shift tent which sells snacks and drinks to the crew in order to give it a deep clean.

“Safety is paramount on a show of this scale and bosses are sure that the strict measures they have in place will mean that the final will still go ahead as planned.”

An ITV spokesperson confirmed to Express.co.uk: “We can confirm a couple of production team members have tested positive for coronavirus.

“The protocols we have in place for such an eventuality have been implemented and filming has continued as we adhere to all Covid guidelines.”

Ahead of the series finale, Jill remains the odds-on favourite to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

The Lioness has gone down a storm with viewers and punters alike, and is now just 4/7 to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Elsewhere, Owen is 7/2 second-favourite in the betting as things stand.

The Hollyoaks star is ahead of Mike (6/1) and Matt (12/1) after Chris was voted out.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Jill’s pulled even further ahead in the I’m A Celebrity betting, and the odds suggest it’ll take something pretty special to stop her from going all the way Down Under.”

With Seann priced at 66/1 to win, it’s likely he will be next out of the camp on Friday evening.

Radio X host Chris confessed he was “gutted” to be voted out of the jungle before former Health Secretary Matt.

He told Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly: “I’m gutted that Matt Hancock is more popular than me. What the bejeezus is going on?”

Speaking of sharing camp with the MP, he added: “I really struggled with it, to be fair.

“But what I did was, I separated Matt Hancock with Matt because we were living with this guy and he was doing his best to win us stars for food and chipping in, so I had to separate the two.

“Matt Hancock I’ve got major issues with but Matt, less issues/“

I’m A Celebrity airs on ITV at 9pm.
