I'm A Celebrity is officially returning to Australia for 2022 series
ITV has finally confirmed that I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will be making a return to Australia for the 2022 series after two years away.
Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will no doubt be on hand to welcome this year’s batch of contestants Down Under as the beloved ITV show bids farewell to Gwrych Castle, North Wales.
The welcomed news comes after much speculation that I’m A Celebrity would be back in Oz with ITV’s Director of Content, Rosemary Newell, hinting that the new season would be back at its birthplace in March.
‘We expect a celebrity to return in Australia in November, when it will generate audience over 11 million,’ she said at the time.
I’m A Celebrity was forced to swap Oz for Wales in 2020 due to travel restrictions as a result of the Covid pandemic.
The series returned to the castle for another year in 2021, which saw Emmerdale’s Danny Miller crowned winner.
Host Ant previously fuelled hope that I’m A Celebrity would be able to return to Australia during an appearance on The One Show in Februrary.
‘Well, the plan is the jungle, so if all things…,’ to which Dec chimed in: ‘Nothing against Wales!’
Ant then added: ‘We love Wales but you know, Australia is its home and we’d like to get back there if we can.’
His co-host Dec said: ‘That’s what we’re hoping, touch wood.’
I’m A Celebrity last took place in the jungle in 2019, which saw former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa crowned queen of the jungle, with Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment coming second and Roman Kemp landing the third spot.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns to ITV later this year.
