Ahead of the Mitchell-centred flashback episode of EastEnders, a brand new clip has been revealed teasing what’s to come.

This September, viewers will be transported back in time to the winter of 1979 in this very special outing of the BBC One soap which aims to explore the Mitchell family’s very-chequered past.

Jaime Winstone, who played Dame Barbara Windsor in biopic Babs, will lead the cast, playing the iconic Peggy Mitchell, who will have her hands full between keeping Phil, Grant and Sam – and the household – in line.

Various characters from the EastEnders history books will also feature, including Peggy’s husband Eric, who has never before been seen on screen.

Phil and Eric are vying for the title of man of the house as the tension between them grow. Archie, meanwhile, is up to his usual tricks as Glenda does her best to keep the lively Ronnie and Roxy out of trouble.

Billy’s older brother Charlie, as well as Stephen – Billy and Charlie’s father – will also play pivotal roles in the story.

In this brand new clip, some of the Mitchells are enjoying dinner.

As expected, there is bickering between Phil and Grant, with Peggy setting the foundations for the Mitchell code we all know today – they always look after their own.

Approaching the table is young Sam, who happily jumps on her dad’s lap and sits with him, rather than following Peggy’s rule of sitting on a chair.

Peggy tells Sam that if she doesn’t sit down at the table properly, she’ll hit her with a spoon, to which Eric says ‘I’d like to see you try’, allowing us to already establish this past relationship was not always a happy one.

In present-day, Phil (Steve McFadden), will grapple with the growing pressures from DCI Keeble (Alison Newman), who he’s promised he would turn informant for.

The ongoing storyline with Keeble will be the hook that sends Phil back in time, but how much will this episode impact the future of the Mitchell family?
