Janet Street-Porter wasn’t really here for Richard Osman’s latest admission regarding his height.
The former Pointless frontman recently revealed that he endured a lifetime of ‘microaggressions’ due to people ‘reminding him’ how tall he is.
‘I’m 6ft 7… my height is something that people can always see,’ he told Steven Bartlett on his Diary Of A CEO podcast.
‘But actually, I think, “yeah, that’s what you’re doing, that’s what people have done to me for the last 30 years – they’ve body shamed me.’
During Tuesday’s instalment of Loose Women, presenters Ruth Langsford, Dame Kelly Holmes, Coleen Nolan and Janet discussed Richard’s revelation.
While the panel understood where The Thursday Murder Club author was coming from, Janet agreed the comments aimed at him were in ‘poor taste’ but believed he shouldn’t pay attention.
‘What I say to Richard is get a little bit of a thicker skin,’ she began.
‘You’ve made millions out of flogging your books, you’re very clever. I love Pointless.
‘You’re a very successful TV presenter, just kind of get over it a little bit.’
The 51-year-old helmed Pointless from 2009 up until earlier this year when he announced his departure to concentrate on his writing career.
Although the show is still going strong after 13 years, Richard recently said it didn’t become a ‘hit’ until the fourth season.
‘I didn’t get paid for the first four series or so of Pointless because I was the creative director of the company and I did feel like it wasn’t appropriate,’ he told the Irish Mirror.
‘Until series four we didn’t have a hit and I was still doing my job. To me [hosting the show] was a fun hobby.’
He added: ‘But from the second series, me and Xander [Armstrong] were able to talk a bit more and the ratings started picking up. There was something about that relationship, the casualness and gentleness of it, that I think people liked.’
