Kate Garraway steps in as climate change debate descends into chaos

Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion debate protest tactics

Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray invited Extinction Rebellion’s Clare Farrell and Just Stop Oil’s James Skeet onto the latest instalment of the news programme.

As the debate got underway James became very animated as he hammered his points into Kate and Adil.

The interview soon descended into chaos, with everyone speaking over one another, forcing Kate to step in.

James said: “The only real leverage we have over this criminal government and the billionaires is through disruptive action.

“Now the nurses know that, the train drivers know that, the junior doctors know that.”

Kate interjected: “Now, the public doesn’t like what you are doing, you are not winning hearts.”

The Extinction Rebellion member added: “It’s a disgrace what is happening in the country and I think a lot of people agree with that. But a lot is to do with the systemic failure of this government to actually deal with the problems which are before it.”

The debate continued to escalate, with Adil probing James over Just Stop Oil ruining the recent World Snooker Championship by invading the event.

As James erupted at Adil over wildfires, Kate tried to mitigate the situation, telling him: “The purpose of this debate… We’ve had thousands of people saying they don’t want disruption because they feel they are under pressure and you are breaking the little person to save the planet…

“Do you have in your head, ‘OK, someone is going to be disrupted, it will be a pain for them, but we have to go for the bigger picture?'”

James fumed: “I feel like whenever I have these conversations I feel like I am speaking to someone with six inches of cotton wool wrapped around their head.”

Kate scoffed: “You’re not talking to me? I’ve got cotton wool inside my head?

“We are talking about how the two different groups have made a decision to engage hearts and minds.”

Adil admitted people may never have heard of Just Stop Oil if it wasn’t for the Snooker Championship incident which saw the group pelt orange powder at a snooker table.

“Do you feel you need to make this noise in order to just get heard?” Adil asked James.

James replied: “We are going to win this and our government will be held to account to the crime of genocide.

Good Morning Britain continues on Friday at 6am on ITV and ITVX.
