Kate Garraway to miss Good Morning Britain again as Dereks condition declines

Kate Garraway has been forced to miss another week off of Good Morning Britain as her husband Derek Draper takes a "very serious turn".

Derek, 54, has been battling many major health issues after contracting Covid-19 in March 2020 – with his fate once seemingly hanging on by a thread.

The former Labour political advisor's life was left in the balance when doctors discovered he had been left with holes in many of his major organs.

While Derek appeared to be on the right road with his recovery, it seems Kate and her family could once again be left in limbo when it comes to his health after he was rushed back into hospital last week.

His devoted wife and TV star Kate has yet again returned to his bedside to be with him and has been off of work ever since.

It's been an uphill battle for GMB host and her two-children Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12, with Kate attempting to hold the family together through the tough times while also caring for her poorly husband.

Last week proved to be another low blow for the foursome as they faced a further setback with Derek's recovery.

According to those closest to Kate, she has now come to terms with the fact Derek will still need specialist care.

On Tuesday – 26 July – it was confirmed that Kate would not return to her post on Good Morning Britain on Thursday and Friday.

Kate stars on the programme next to co-star Ben Shephard and all hope at ITV that she will be back to her usual duties as soon as possible.

Along with Ben, daytime favourite Lorraine Kelly has always been behind her friend Kate and wanted to offer up her well wishes on her own programme.

She told Lorraine viewers: "I just wanted to say, we are obviously sending all of our love to our Kate.

"I know a lot of you have seen in the newspapers and online that Derek is back in the hospital and obviously, you know, battling the effects after Covid

"We just want to send our love to them, don't we?"

Lorraine added: "She's amazing. Not one to complain or say 'why me?' or any of that. She's incredible."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
