Love Islands Jack Keating admits hes in the dog house after comment about dad Ronan
Jack Keating, former Love Island contestant and son of Boyzone star Ronan Keating, has admitted that he's in the 'dog house' after he made a comment about his famous father on the programme.
During 23 year old Jack's short-lived stint on the hit ITV2 show, he was one of six new boys to enter Casa Amor to meet the original Love Island girls.
Whilst there, he was chatting to Michael Owen's daughter Gemma, 19, in the pool, when he told her that his dad was Ronan Keating.
As they got to know each other, Jack said to Gemma: “My mum and my little sister are big into show jumping and everything like that. I know you’re big into it as well.”
Gemma said: “ Oh ok, oh wow!” before asking: “So your mum is a showjumper? So what does your dad do?”
Jack replied: "He’s a singer", to which Gemma replied: “A well-known singer?”
And he answered: “ Yeah he is, you know Ronan Keating? That’s the old man."
As he chatted away, he told Gemma that his dad was 'retired', which didn't sit too well with Ronan.
The 45 year old dad-of-three appeared on BBC's The One Show to discuss his son's appearance on Love Island, admitting he was 'worried' about him.
Speaking about Jack's decision to tell Gemma that Ronan was retired, Ronan said: “He did alright. He did okay. I mean, he did drop the line that I was retired, which I was a bit shocked about.
“I nearly fell off my chair! What?! I’m doing The One Show next week, I’m in York tonight, I’m not retired yet!"
Despite his worries, Ronan admitted he couldn’t be prouder of his son, and even shared some of his own sage wisdom with Jack prior to him appearing on the show.
“I said to him, be yourself and have a good time. That’s really it, y’know,” said Ronan.
“People go in with plans and ideas but the bottom line is to be yourself and I hope people at home see that and warm to him. He’s my boy! I just want to protect him and look after him.”
Jack was dumped from the villa just a few days after entering Casa Amor alongside two more guys and three girls from the main villa, after none of them were picked to be in a couple.
Jack appeared on Sunday night's Aftersun with Laura Whitmore, and here he addressed his comments about his father's working status, admitting he was 'in the dog house'.
After Laura said that he was a 'true gent' and 'didn't embarrass yourself', she said: "You did embarrass your dad, because he wanted me to tell you that you said that he was a 'retired singer', and he's not retired."
Jack looked flustered as he said: "What I meant to say was that he was retired from Boyzone but he's singing now."
He continued: "Trust me, i've got enough stick since I've gone back so I'm in the dog house, big time".
Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
