Marcus exits Casualty after Stevie destroys him in revenge plan?

Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) started this week’s Casualty episode hopeful that the hearing that was scheduled for that day would see Marcus Fidel (Adam Sina) clearing out his desk drawers and leaving the Holby ED for good.

She discovered last week that Marcus had been systematically gaslighting her, behaviour which culminated in his sending an explicit photo of her to everyone in her address book, and in the tragic death of one of his previous victims. Stevie learned the truth after drugging Marcus and going through his phone, finding all the evidence she needed.

Marcus subsequently deleted the copies that Stevie downloaded to her phone, so she had no physical proof of her claims against him but hoped her powerful account of the truth would do the trick.

Sadly it didn’t and Max (Nigel Harman) later told her that Marcus would be staying because there weren’t any grounds to sack him. This news sent Stevie into a spiral, particularly after Marcus slickly suggested they should go for a drink and ‘move on.’ Rushing outside in panic, Stevie knew that there would be no moving on as long as Marcus Fidel was around.

One of the nastiest things Marcus did to her was to alienate her from her best (possibly only) friend Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) by driving a wedge between the two women with false stories and lies. Stevie had to work alongside Faith during the shift and as she struggled she eventually realised that Faith had been on her side all along.

With Faith’s support and a spot of help from patient Stan (Simon Naylor), who was a cyber security expert, Stevie hatched a plan. She agreed to go for a drink with Marcus at the pub, and while Faith created a diversion by pretending to be disgusted that Stevie was out socially with Marcus, Stan helped himself to Marcus’s phone – and downloaded every scrap of evidence that Stevie had previously seen.

So is that the end of Marcus Fidel? We can only hope so.

Elsewhere Rash (Neet Mohan) was called to his dad’s care home and encountered a troubling scene. An apparently terrified Ashok (Kriss Dosanjh had barricaded himself in his room. When Rash and a staff member forced their way into the room Ashok panicked and stabbed the carer with a knife he’d been holding.

As the staff member was treated in the ED it gradually became clear that Ashok had witnessed another resident of the home being horrifically abused by another person and had tried to help by grabbing the knife that the man had held at the woman’s throat.

“We’re at breaking point.”

Dylan recognised that the wounds he’d previously seen on the necks of care home residents fitted this description and realised that what Ashok had witnessed was part of the systematic care home abuse he’s been investigating. He called in DCI Vadra and when she heard his account, which was supported by Max, she agreed to go after those responsible.

Rash, meanwhile, was once again left with the problem of how to look after Ashok and keep him safe. Whatever he decides to do, he’s not going to have Paige (Shalisha James-Davis) by his side as he told her their relationship was over. ‘You have this light, and I’ve been putting it out,’ he told her, saying he had to focus completely on his dad.
