Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) was expected to suffer a major heartbreak in season five after the announcement of Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) pregnancy. Martin revealed he was glad the scene was axed as he spoke on his character’s upcoming fate.

Season four ended on a major cliffhanger after Mel revealed she was pregnant, this would’ve been great news for the couple who just reunited after a break.

However, she admitted the child may not be Jack’s as she returned to Los Angeles during their break-up and underwent IVF with the embryo from her previous relationship.

This came after Jack stated he didn’t want any more children after learning his ex-girlfriends Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley) was pregnant with his twins.

This devastated Mel as she always wanted children and had suffered a stillbirth before her former husband Mark Monroe (Daniel Gillies) died.

With this revelation, season five showed Jack go on a downhill spiral after he began to self-medicate with alcohol.

Fans were made to wait until the finale to learn the truth about the paternity, which revealed Jack was in fact the father of Mel’s baby.

Following the season four finale, star Alexandra shared bosses had originally planned for the baby to be Mark’s baby.

This came as a huge relief for her onscreen boyfriend Martin who stated: “It’s a drama, there’ll be all sorts of unhappy moments.

“I was really relieved when they pivoted and made it Jack’s baby and then, from my understanding, that’s what precipitated the decision to make the twins not Jack’s.

“Because it was like, he’s just going to have babies, babies everywhere, then.

Martin added: “So we’ll give him Mel’s baby, but Charmaine’s babies are not his.”

Speaking to Glamour, the actor teased “And now I guess the big question is: Whose babies are they?”

Viewers were also glad to learn Mel and Jack were expecting a daughter together as Mark’s mother Cassandra (Laura Soltis) was vying for custody.

She had filed a lawsuit against Mel for the right to see the unborn child, so Mel was brought to tears when the letter revealed the child was Jack’s.

Jack was also under a lot of pressure when Charmaine told him she was expecting his twins.

However, the weight was lifted off his shoulders after she confessed he wasn’t the biological father.

Throughout the pregnancy, Jack had established a positive co-parenting relationship between the pair, despite interference from Charmaine’s new husband.

But after an intense panic attack, she confessed to Mel and Jack who were there to calm her down.

Viewers were also astonished to learn the truth, with many questions about the paternity of the unborn twins.

However, Jack revealed fans will soon learn the motives behind her lies, as he hinted: “You’re going to find out in season five.”
