Martin Lewis takes a swipe at I'm A Celebrity contestants and admits he's 'turned it down more than once' | The Sun

MARTIN Lewis has taken a swipe at the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here stars after admitting he "turned down" the show.

The Money Saving Expert took to Twitter to hit out at this year's star-studded line-up, as he slammed them for saying they "didn't know what they were doing" on the ITV programme.

Martin, 50, admitted he had turned down appearing on I'm A Celebrity "more than once" as he told fans he would "never" take part.

He slammed the celebrities – who include Boy George, Mike Tindall, Olivia Attwood and Jill Scott – for their reasons for going on the show.

Hitting out in a tweet on Sunday night, Martin lashed out that he "rolled his eyes" as he said they were in the jungle for "a pay cheque".

"I do roll my eyes when I hear 'I don't know what I'm doing here' on I'm A Celeb," he penned to his 1.9million followers.

"It's an entertainment TV booking. You're on there for one or more of… 1) a pay cheque, 2) to boost your profile, 3) to rehabilitate your image. Simples."

When Martin was quizzed by his fans if he "would ever do it", he was quick to hit back: "Nope. Said no more than once.

"I'd only do one-off things so single programmes as I don't have any time for training or to be off work, and they'd have to be something I'd genuinely enjoy doing."

Among the other stars taking part this year is former MP Matt Hancock, Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver and DJ Chris Moyles.

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here returned to screens last night – and to the Australian jungle after two years of filming in Wales.

It comes after it was revealed that this year's celebrities were given code names by bosses to keep their identities hidden.

ITV made sure to use the names in meetings, at photoshoots and in planning during the months of planning in the run-up to the show.

They opted for The Masked Singer inspired code names, which are said to have included Text, Coffee and Mic.

While the celebrity line-up did come to light in the days running up to the show, the names were still used by staff members.

Among the names given out to the celebs were Ship, Holiday, Butcher, Cap, Fridge, Mic, Lion, Sunshine and Text.

Boy George was seen dressing as a lion as he headed Down Under last week – hinting that could have been his nickname.

While elsewhere, Love Island star Olivia Attwood is thought to be Text, due to the famous line from the ITV2 show: "I've got a text".

Radio DJ Chris Moyles is likely to be Mic, while Scarlette Douglas, who presents A Place In The Sun, could be Sunshine.

While Jill Scott is the prime candidate for Cap, as the most capped players of all time for England with 161 appearances.
