McDonald and Dodds viewers call out ‘laughable’ blunder for ruining series finale | The Sun

THE third season finale of McDonald and Dodds aired on ITV last night and viewers can’t stop talking about the episode’s laughable blunder.

Sunday night’s episode of McDonald and Dodds spun an enticing mystery for viewers, but there’s one scene they claim is totally unbelievable.

Tala Gouveia, 38, and Jason Watkins, 55, returned to the small screen on June 19 for the third season of MacDonald and Dodds. This has been the longest season to date, with a total of four episodes, which aired every Sunday evening for the last month.

Viewers have had few complaints about the series so far and have returned each week to see their favourite detective duo solving murders in Bath.

However, viewers were less than impressed by the ending of the season finale, saying the episode was very good “until the last ten minutes.”

This week, DCI Lauren McDonald and DS Dodds were investigating a series of murders which took them all the way from Bath to Glastonbury Tor.

The episode had plenty of twists and turns as the murder planted false evidence to throw the detectives off his scent. MacDonald and Dodds eventually solved the mystery though, working out that the murderer was picking their targets by working their way through the alphabet.

This revelation culminated in a big showdown where the murderer, Fulton Harte, played by Gerran Howell, 31, threatened McDonald on a bridge.

In the scene, Fulton had his left arm clenched around McDonald’s neck, while his right hand was tightly gripped around a knife, which he was holding to her throat.

As Dodds distracted him though, Fulton waved the knife in his direction which, as fans have pointed out, should have been an opportunity for Lauren to disarm him.

“Superb mystery this week, spoiled by an execrable penultimate scene on the bridge,” one viewer commented.

They continued, joking: “My cat could have overpowered him, and I don’t even have one.”

“She’s got both her hands free. How is she not able to free herself!” another observed.

Viewers thought the scene was quite unbelievable, despite Lauren appearing terrified of Fulton.

“Final episode of this series of #McDonaldAndDodds has been the best one of the series…apart from the fact that McDonald could easily have overpowered murderer on the bridge.”

“You’re telling me that Lauren can’t disarm him,” another added.

Lauren’s hands were free during the attack, and she appeared to be using them to tug Fulton’s arm away from her neck — but was without success.

Viewers had other ideas about how she could save herself.

“Why doesn’t she elbow him in the stomach he’s concentrating on Dodds not her,” one suggested.

“Enjoy this guff so much but she could easily stamp and twist out of that,” another viewer said.

TV broadcaster India Willoughby also joined in on the conversation, saying “She could beat him up – easy. [Very] loose grip.”

She continued, making a joke that Fulton’s attack on Lauren was “like being mugged by Joe Lycett.”

Despite the finale’s blunder, viewers are clamouring for a fourth season of the ITV crime drama. The show hasn’t officially been renewed yet, but if it is, viewers can expect McDonald and Dodds to return in 2023.
