Naga Munchetty shuts down BBC Breakfast co-star after old age jibe

Breakfast: Naga interprets ‘experienced’ comment as ‘old’

Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt spoke with their BBC Breakfast co-star Jane Dougall about the latest sporting updates during Friday’s programme. However, things took an unexpected turn when Jane made a jibe at Charlie and Naga over their age and “experience”. This led Naga to quip back at her co-star, admitting: “We’re old.”

Discussing the latest cricket highlights, Jane began: “It was the battle of the England legends and the county championship. 38-year-old sir Alastair Cook versus 40-year-old Jimmy Anderson.

“Essex versus Lancashire and it was Anderson who came out on top.

“He took a wicket with his third ball in his first appearance for Lancashire in 11 months.

“He then got his former England teammate Cook out by LBW (leg before wicket). Anderson looking in great form.”

“Weather looks nice there,” Naga chipped in as Jane replied: “Doesn’t it just?

“78 years experience on the pitch there. I love it when the older players are showing the younger players how it’s done.”

Naga continued: “Don’t underestimate experience.”

“Exactly,” Jane agreed as she joked: “And there is a couch full of it here.”

Naga hesitated before hitting back: “Thanks, Jane, we are all old.”

Naga regularly shares banter with her co-stars, and during Thursday’s programme, she took aim at Carol Kirkwood.

Following her weather report, Carol left Naga in fits of laughter after she was unable to give a forecast for all locations in the UK.

After wrapping up the forecast, Carol told Carol and Charlie: “Sadly I don’t have enough space to put everywhere on my charts.”

Naga struggled to get her words out after she laughed over Carol’s remark.

“The point is Carol can’t have every city up on the weatherboard,” Charlie chipped in.

Naga went on: “She just knew she was going to be asked so she knew she had to have that.

“Up and down the country, Carol, thank you very much, see you later.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
