NCIS season 20 won’t be back for the rest of April 2023

NCIS Season 20 Episode 17 Promo

NCIS’ future is still looking bright on CBS as the network renewed the police procedural for a 21st series in February 2023. With the knowledge there is still plenty more to come, fans have been able to enjoy the latter half of this season in peace. Following Head Games airing on Monday, April 10, however, there is going to be time before the next adventure airs.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from NCIS.

When will NCIS season 20 episode 19 air?

In 2022, NCIS switched from its Tuesday timeslot fans had been used to for decades to Monday night, with spin-off NCIS Hawaii airing straight after.

Season 20 has been playing out almost every week on CBS since premiering in September last year with a couple of hiatuses thrown in between.

Viewers can expect another break before the remaining episodes of NCIS’ latest series are released weekly.

So there will be no new instalment of NCIS coming out, as expected, next week on Monday, April 17.

Instead, NCIS sadly won’t be back until next month, with episode 19 being released on Monday, May 1, on CBS.

There is no one concrete reason why American networks have these breaks between long-running shows.

Sometimes it is a case of big events, like the Super Bowl, needing air time but more often than not, these breaks are factored in from the very beginning.

This tactic of spreading out episodes over a longer period of time is done to increase viewership when the show does return.

By doing this, the series is more likely to be renewed as the network sees a show’s popularity through its ratings.

Episode 19 is going to be called In the Spotlight and even though only a short synopsis has been revealed, it does indicate an interesting turn of events for one character.

It reads: “Agent Knight (Katrina Law) goes viral for saving a mother and child from a potentially fatal car accident.”

In the Spotlight is once again directed by Leon Vance star Rocky Carroll who, as of last year, has directed 18 episodes in total.

As previously mentioned, NCIS will be back for more as CBS has given the green light for season 21 to go ahead.

The show was renewed alongside NCIS Hawaii which will be returning for a third outing.

Sadly, it is already the beginning of the end for the flagship’s first-ever spin-off NCIS Los Angeles.

It was announced the drama would be reaching its final conclusion with season 14 ending on Sunday, May 21.

At the time, president of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach said in a statement: “For 14 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles has been a stalwart of our lineup with characters who were a joy to watch.

“It’s no surprise this show succeeded as a global franchise.

“From day one, the cast, producers and crew were amazing Network/Studios partners, and their teamwork, talent and spirit vividly came through on the screen.

“We are so grateful for the collaboration and remarkable run of these treasured members of our CBS family, and plan to give them the big sendoff they and their fans deserve.”

NCIS season 20 continues on Monday, May 1, on CBS in the USA and airs Wednesday on Disney+ in the UK.
