Neighbours is back! Soap favourites joined by new cast members as reboot starts filming
Neighbours fans can officially get excited as some more soap favourites will officially be returning to the revived show, set to premiere later this year.
Fans of the long-running Aussie soap were left devastated when it was announced in February 2022 that Neighbours was coming to an end after a 37-year run, with a tear-jerking final episode aired on Channel 5 later that year.
But good news was on the way as, in November, it was revealed that streaming giant Amazon had saved the show after production company Fremantle signed onto the project with Amazon Freevee.
Fan favourites, including Stefan Dennis (as Paul Robinson), Alan Fletcher (as Karl Kennedy), Jackie Woodburne (as Susan Kennedy) and Ryan Moloney as (Toadie Rebecchi), were all announced to be returning.
and today, Amazon Freevee and Fremantle announced that seven more beloved Neighbours characters will be returning to Ramsay Street, a fictional residence that has been at the beating heart of the show for its 37 years on air.
Annie Jones (as Jane Harris), Rebekah Elmaloglou (as Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (as Mackenzie Hargreaves), and Tim Kano (as Leo Tanaka) will reprise their roles as regulars on the much-loved series.
But that's not all, as a number of adored characters are also returning in guest roles, including Ian Smith (as Harold Bishop), April Rose Pengilly (as Chloe Brennan), and Melissa Bell (as Lucy Robinson).
The revived series will premiere for free, exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the UK and the States. The series will also stream on Prime Video in Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa, and will be available seven days after launch on Prime Video in Australia.
Fans of the show will also be able to catch up on all of the old episodes on Amazon Freevee.
Millions of viewers tuned in to watch the final episode of Neighbours last July, which saw the return of some of its most iconic stars including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie, Holly Valance, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce and Ian Smith.
The final episode of the show had fans reaching for the tissues as they said goodbye to the much-loved soap.
One person tweeted: "So sad my favourite show is over @neighbours has been with me through school, university and marriage.
"A mad mix of unforgettable characters and storylines from the sublime to the ridiculous! Nothing will replace this wonderful family soap, but we’ll always have the memories.
"It was always going to be difficult bringing Neighbours to an end after almost 40 years. But credit to the cast, writers and crew: they pulled it off.
Another person implored another network to pick up the show, writing: "It would be further madness for another network to now not pick up #neighbours. It has more than proved its case for living, I can’t ever remember a reaction like this to a series #BringBackNeighbours."
