Paddy McGuinness missed family birthday to secretly film Celebrity Bake Off as marriage crumbled | The Sun
IF the Great British Bake Off had a technical challenge on keeping quiet, Paddy McGuinness would be a shoo-in as Star Baker.
Because the Bolton funnyman filmed the celebrity version of the Channel 4 show earlier this month — and managed to hide his marriage break-up from fellow contestants.
Despite having one of the loudest voices in showbiz, the Top Gear host kept his split from wife Christine out of the Bake Off tent while they filmed in the grounds of Down Hall, Hatfield Heath, Essex, in early July.
Paddy had to miss the ninth birthday of their twins, Leo and Penelope — who celebrated with a kids’ party in the garden of their family home — to take part in the charity special.
A source revealed: “Paddy went off to film on Friday night and was away all weekend.
He missed the twins’ birthday but Christine made sure they had a day they’d never forget.

Paddy McGuinness appears NAKED as he hits the gym every day since split
“He kept their break-up a secret from the other celebrities during filming.
"He and Christine had already split up and were living separate lives but no one on the set was any the wiser.
“Paddy was still his usual jolly self despite what was going on in his personal life.
"Which is amazing really, given the pressure of the famous tent, which can send even the most balanced of bakers awry.”

The pair — who had been married 11 years — announced their split last month.
But Paddy was seen still wearing his wedding band while celebrating his birthday recently at The Ivy in London.
Christine was seen wearing her ring on her right hand while out in Cheshire this week.
Hopefully Paddy had less drama in the Bake Off tent.
SET FOR A HOLLIDAY IN SPACE
HOLLIDAY GRAINGER has bagged a leading role in sci-fi film Mickey7, the latest project from Oscar-winning Parasite director Bong Joon-Ho.
The Borgias actress started shooting the flick in London this week, opposite Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo.
A source said: “This is arguably Holliday’s biggest role to date.
"It will see her mix with the A-list of acting and will really elevate her stardom.
“She’s had big flm roles before but she was chuffed to be asked to work with Bong, who is one of the most sought-after people in the industry right now.”
The film is based on a novel by Edward Ashton, in which Mickey7 is an “expendable”, a disposable employee on a space expedition to colonise the ice world Niflheim.
All I know is that Mickey7 sounds like Minnie Mouse’s Gmail password.

HEIDI: SI’S LEDER OF THE PACK
FORGET the high-waisted jeans – Simon Cowell will soon be known for lederhosen if Heidi Klum gets her way.
The German supermodel has been given the green light to dress her fellow judge and boss for finals week on America’s Got Talent.
And the music mogul, formerly known as Mr Nasty, has reluctantly agreed.
Heidi said: “I kind of want to put him in lederhosen.
“They have long leder-hosen, but they also have short.
“I kind of want to put him in short lederhosen.”
With the finals of the US talent show coming up, I’ll be waiting on tenterhooks for a glimpse of Simon’s new look.
Surely that will be worth the Golden Buzzer . . .
JAMES SCRUMS TO FORE
THE LGBT+ community continue to make their mark in the world of sport.
And now the BBC has filmed a Pride special of its long-running quiz show Question Of Sport.
Rugby league referee James Child, who announced he was gay last year, has revealed he joined the one-off alongside swimmer Mark Foster, Scottish curling athlete Bruce Mouat, English rugby union player Katy Daley-McLean and hockey star Susannah Townsend.
Regular team captains Ugo Monye and Sam Quek presided over the action, with Paddy McGuinness back as the host.
James said the episode will air next month.

LOCKE AND LOAD
EMILY BLUNT’s next big role looks totally frill-ing.
The Devil Wears Prada actress has swapped Hollywood for the small screen to play Lady Cornelia Locke in a new high-octane western for BBC2 called The English.
She stars alongside Chaske Spencer from Marvel’s Echo, who plays ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp.
These first pictures show the cast in action for the revenge tale, which is set in 1890 America.
The six-part series follows the story of a woman bent on evening the score on the man she believes is responsible for her son’s death.
It will air this November and, to be blunt, it looks great.
ARLENE: I CUT THE COSSIES
THE body-positive movement says that all you need to be “bikini body ready” is a bikini and a body.
But Arlene Phillips has her own opinion on who should and should not wear skimpy cossies.
The former Strictly Come Dancing judge, who will turn 80 next May, said: “I do not rock a bikini because I don’t like my saggy arse – I don’t have a dancer’s bum any more.
“But if you have a body like Helen Mirren’s and if it is strong and firm, show it off, for goodness sake.”
