Rhona and Naomi go to war in Emmerdale as April gets belly-button piercing
April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) wasn’t feeling well at the start of tonight’s Emmerdale – but it didn’t stop her from rather vigorously defending her friend Arthur (Alfie Clarke) when Marshall (Max Fletcher) appeared.
Arthur was humiliated when Marshall previously pretended to like him to win a bet, and when Marshall came to find Arthur in the café she accused him of being homophobic. In return he called her a do-gooder who fancied Arthur herself – and she smacked him in the face.
Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) swiftly called Rhona (Zoe Henry) to deal with the situation, and Rhona wasn’t pleased to get to the café and hear that her daughter had been attacking people. Her mood wasn’t improved when Cathy (Gabrielle Dowling) let slip that they’d had a party at Rhona and Marlon (Mark Charnock)’s house the night before.
Then April began to feel faint, and revealed that she’d given herself a belly button piercing that had become infected.
A quick visit to the doctor and a prescription for antibiotics soon sorted her out and, as Mary (Louise Jameson) said, ‘We’ve all got piercings in places where we shouldn’t’ – a remark that totally horrified Arthur.
Rhona, meanwhile, knew exactly who was to blame for April’s recent run of bad behaviour, which began with her wearing makeup for school. She headed straight for the Woolpack to confront Naomi (Karene Peter).
Naomi had already had a run-in with Rhona earlier after she was late for work and Rhona found Marlon chopping vegetables. This time Naomi was on her own while Marlon was at a farmers’ market with Paddy (Dominic Brunt).
Rhona stormed in and demanded to know where April had been getting all these rebellious ideas. Naomi always defends herself and she did so again, but Rhona was having none of it, convinced that Naomi was the inspiration for everything April was getting up to – including the attack on Marshall.
‘I don’t see anyone else around here who’s been up in court for assault,’ she said.
‘And I don’t see anyone else round here who’s a vindictive little control freak who doesn’t allow her husband or kid to have a life of their own,’ Naomi clapped back.
The argument moved out to the bar, and Rhona decided to have a look to see if Naomi had a belly button piercing herself. ‘You’ve got more piercings than a secondhand dartboard,’ she raged. As she reached to pull up Naomi’s top the other woman pushed her away and Rhona fell.
At that moment Marlon walked in and saw what was happening, and if Rhona thought he would support her she was mistaken. He sent Naomi to the kitchen, telling her it was fine. ‘What were you thinking?’ he demanded of his wife, saying that April’s behaviour was something ‘every teenager wants to do.’
When Rhona brought up Naomi’s history of being part of the girl gang who attacked Nicola, Marlon reminded her that Naomi had been acquitted and refused to condone or support her behaviour towards his kitchen assistant.
‘I thought I meant more to you than that,’ a furious Rhona said, before she walked out.
Oops. How are they going to sort this one out – especially with Nicola keen to drip poison into Rhona’s ear about Naomi whenever she gets the chance?
