Jayde Adams is sailing through each week of Strictly Come Dancing with her partner Karen Hauer. They impressed the judges with their classy American Smooth at the weekend, and the duo are hoping to do the same on Saturday with a comedic Charleston. The award-winning comedian wouldn’t be in the BBC series in the first place if it wasn’t for her younger sister.

What happened to Strictly Come Dancing star Jayde Adams’ sister?

Jayde Adams’ sister Jenna died at the age of 23, as she was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour after having a seizure.

The doctors were able to take more than 50 percent of the tumour during a biopsy, but thanks to the trauma, “she was different afterward”, Adams told The Guardian.

Jenna fought the illness for six years but sadly passed away in 2011.

The 37-year-old comedian remembers the day everything changed, when her sister first fell ill.

She explained: “My brother Kane had phoned me 17 times – he never, ever calls.

“When I got through to him, he told me Jenna had collapsed in a fit.

“It happened in the car with my dad and he had to carry her into the hospital.”

More than a decade on, and it was Jenna who inspired Jayde to sign up to Strictly this year.

The sisters used to dance together, taking part in contests for 13 years at their aunt’s dance school in Bristol.

Since Jenna’s passing, Jayde hasn’t danced with anyone else but decided to get back on the dancefloor with professional Karen for Strictly.

Jayde told the Mirror: “It all feels so serendipitous. It’s such an emotional thing for me.

“I cannot begin to express the emotions I am feeling, this means so much to me and my family.”

Last weekend, Jayde and Karen were in the middle of the pack when it came to the leaderboard, in seventh place.

They did a good job with an elegant American Smooth to Bette Midler’s Wind Beneath My Wings.

Their performance scored them an impressive 31 points and, along with the public vote, ensured they remained in the competition for another week.

Week five is going to be a night to remember as Strictly marks the BBC’s 100th anniversary.

To celebrate the special occasion, all of the couples are going to perform to either an iconic BBC theme tune or dance to one of the channel’s “most-loved services”.

The professionals are going to open the show with a group number where they will gatecrash some of the BBC’s biggest shows.

Jayde and Karen are going to dance the Charleston to The Ballad Of Barry and Freda (Let’s Do It) by BBC comedian Victoria Wood.

Strictly Come Dancing continues every Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
