Motsi and Oti Mabuse are well known as a dazzling duo of professional dancers who also happen to be sisters. The two appeared on Strictly Come Dancing together in 2021 and judge Motsi detailed the effect this had on their mother.
Following Darcey Bussell’s exit in 2019, Motsi was introduced to the dance competition as her replacement and instantly became a beloved part of the panel.
As well as being a professional dancer, she also had previous judging experience, as Motsi has served on the panel in the German version of Strictly where her sister had danced for two seasons.
After her appearance gained a ton of positive feedback from fans, Motsi became a permanent member of the Strictly Come Dancing panel.
At the time Oti was competing and was paired with Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher.
After Oti and Kelvin went on to win the series, the siblings appeared on the show together again the following year.
This time Oti became the first professional dancer to win the Glitterball Trophy for two consecutive years after she and comedian Bill Bailey were crowned winners.
While fans were delighted to see her gain another victory, Motsi revealed this was a stressful time for their mother.
With Oti now on the judging panel for The Masked Dancer, Motsi shared: “It’s different. I just feel like she is missing for me because I always used to look at her.”
She added: “But in some sort of way the family is more relaxed.”
Speaking on the Graham Norton show, Motsi admitted: “My mother was very stressed out when we were both in the show and now she doesn’t care, she is very relaxed.”
Although viewers would look forward to seeing the sisters on-screen together, others complained Oti had an unfair advantage.
With her sister on the panel, many believed Motsi would score her sister higher out of favouritism.
While Oti and Motsi were put in an awkward position, it was revealed the duo made a vow to ignore each other while on the show.
Oti explained: “We were very professional and, to be fair to everyone else, it needed to be.
”I only really saw her on the show day on Saturdays when she was critiquing.
“Kelvin and I didn’t really speak to her, either, because we were so busy,” she added to The Sun.
Despite her win, Oti shocked fans when she announced her departure from the series with an Instagram post.
It read: “I can’t put in to words how difficult this decision has been, but I have decided not to return for the next series.
“Dance will always be my first love and to everyone, my family especially, friends, strictly fans and judges who have been my support throughout my strictly journey, thank you for being incredible!
“You are irreplaceable in my heart and have made everyday unforgettable! I love you.
“I will always Keeeep Dancing! and I will never forget my amazing Strictly experience!” (sic)
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
