Tasha Ghouri eyes up Dancing on Ice after support from Rose Ayling-Ellis
Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri has revealed she would love to follow in the footsteps of fellow Deaf star Rose Ayling-Ellis with a stint on either Dancing On Ice or Strictly Come Dancing.
Tasha, 24, made it all the way to the final of Love Island alongside now-boyfriend Andrew Le Page, 27.
The pair are absolutely smitten with each other and have continued their journey as a couple outside of the Villa, after being coupled up by the public in the very first episode.
The dancer made history by becoming the first-ever Deaf islander on the show and opened up about her superpower to her fellow contestants early on.
This was highly praised by viewers, and Tasha received support from many fans, including Strictly champion Rose, who was the first Deaf competitor on the BBC series.
In an interview with Metro.co.uk, she shared how Rose ‘had her back’ during and after her Love Island stint, and would love to get on the dance floor (or ice rink) too.
She admitted to feeling ‘nervous’ knowing she was putting herself ‘in a vulnerable position’ by going in and representing the Deaf community.
‘I didn’t want to let my Deaf community down,’ Tasha told us. ‘I wanted to also raise awareness, so that’s why I opened up about my superpower to the islanders at the time I went inside. I just wanted to show people that, they can be strangers, but they will be supportive regardless.
‘Going in was kind of scary because I had no idea what people would be saying on the outside world and obviously, there was a mix of a bit of negative and positive, things about the way I speak, that’s why my dad stepped in.
‘I don’t think people fully understood how cochlear implants work and all those kinds of things.’
But she believes things are ‘much more positive’ now and spoke about being supported heavily by EastEnders favourite, Rose, who reached out to her on social media.
She continued: ‘Rose did have my back as well, which was amazing. I saw that she wrote a little piece about me and it was so lovely that she stepped in and we have been messaging on Instagram. I said, “Thank you for having my back. It meant a lot.”
‘I looked up to Rose, on Strictly last year [and told her], that was just amazing that you did that and absolutely killed it. It’s great that she reached out, I reached out, and we’re both in it together, because I’ve never experienced ableism before, so it was my first time experiencing it coming out of the villa.
‘Rose said, “If you ever want to chat, I’m here”. It’s nice that we’ve got that connection we’re hoping to meet up soon as well,’ Tasha added.
And it seems she’d be well up for taking on another challenge, as she seemed keen to get her skates on for ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
On whether she’d want to do any other reality-style shows, she told us: ‘I mean, I would love to do dancing on ice. Obviously, I am a dancer, but I’ve never done I’ve skated before.
‘Even Strictly, I’ve never done those dance styles before. So I mean, it’d be really, really good if I could do something like that, but have to wait to see after we see!’
We’re sure it’s only a matter of time before we see Tasha back on our screens.
Love Island can be streamed in full on the ITV Hub.
