The One Show turns awkward as Alex Jones interviews ex after live TV break-up
There was an element of awkwardness in the air during the latest instalment of The One Show as co-host Alex Jones was reunited with her old flame and Formula One presenter, Steve Jones.
The former couple hooked up in 1999 during their stint working on Channel 4's Rise, but the relationship turned sour following claims Steve shafted Alex in order to interview Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie alone.
Tuesday (July 4) saw Steve, 46, appear on the BBC show's sofa to discuss this weekend's British Grand Prix and his first novel, Call Time, which sees main character Bob attempt to alter his past after discovering an old mobile phone.

Introducing Steve with co-presenter Jermaine Jenas, Alex, also 46, said she had read all about the book, but fans appeared to be less than convinced that everything was hunky dory with the Welsh pair.
Aware of Alex's claims that former Entertainment Correspondent Steve said she was ill to gain access to Oscar winner Angelina by himself, viewers took to social media to discuss the tension between the ex-lovers.
One commented on Twitter: "Steve can't even look Alex in the eye! He's glaring at Jermaine."
Another declared: "They had a brutal breakup but fair play to them for being the bigger people and actually coming together for an interview like this."
And a third added: "OMG you could cut the tension with a knife between Alex and Steve."
Opening up about the Angelina incident on the podcast Thanks A Million with Angela Scalon last year, Alex explained: "So I got back to the flat and was like, ‘Where is he?’ Hours went past, nobody answering their phones and in the end thought, ‘Right, I'm going to drive back to Cardiff, because I don’t know where you are, you’ve probably gone to the pub’.
"And then the production company called, and they were like, ‘We’ve got bit of a situation. Tomorrow morning your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it would be really funny if you came on the line, live on the show and surprise him and said that you know exactly what he’s been up to.’
"So again, I said 'yes’, so on live telly I'm like, ‘You lied to me, where have you been?' So yeah, not surprisingly, we split up live on telly!’"
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm.
