Alex Jones ‘ran away’ from job after being terrified
Alex Jones has shared the reason she quite literally “ran away” from a job on the latest episode of The One Show.
The BBC host made the admission when chatting to Katherine Kelly about her new ITV series, which focuses on comedian Jayde Adams and her time working in a call centre.
It prompted Alex to open up about her own experience of working in a call centre before her television career.
Her co-host Jermaine Jenas said: “You know a thing or two about call centres Miss Jones, don’t you?”
Alex replied by saying it was a “brilliant” place for a sitcom to be based “first and foremost”.
She then admitted: “I didn’t last long though, Katherine. I think actually, I can say this now as it was a long time ago…
“It was for an energy provider, I won’t say what they are called, and my friend and I ran away.
“It was so terrifying, you had to put a code in to get inside, a code in to go to the loo, and a code in for coffee.”
Alex, who dubbed the job “not good” even likened her former boss to the mean character Katherine plays in Ruby Speaks.

Ruby Speaking lands on ITV on Thursday, June 22, and it takes viewers inside a fictional telecoms company’s call centre to uncover the funny side of office life.
The call centre is based in Bristol and Katherine’s character is a boss at the company called Vicki.
“She is the worst boss,” Katherine said. “She has a completely manufactured personality which is basically a mashup of wellness speak, TED Talks and a bit of Oprah [Winfrey] sprinkled in for good measure.”
According to the synopsis, Jayde’s character Ruby is a bubbly member of the customer service team at Hellocom.
However, she struggles to stick to the prepared script that work and life have thrown upon her, choosing instead to walk her own chaotic path.
“Comedy Ruby Speaking follows Ruby and her ragtag bunch of colleagues at the Hellocom call centre as they live, love, laugh and enter a choir competition they have no business being in,” the synopsis reads.
The One Show airs on weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
