The Voice viewers vow to ‘switch off’ after unfair knockout round

The Voice USA: Sister trio Sorelle wow the judges

The Voice returned to NBC for the final round of season 23’s Knockouts, which saw more sing-offs from Team Blake Shelton, Niall Horan, Chance the Rapper and Kelly Clarkson.

This provided one last opportunity for the contestants to secure their place in the Playoffs.

During the episode, judges were joined by country singer Reba McEntire to help the artists prepare for this stage of the competition.

However, as the talent took to the stage, Chance the Rapper was quickly met with backlash after he paired group Sorelle against soloist Tiana Goss.

As a result, viewers took to social media with fury as they believed Tiana was at a disadvantage after being forced to compete against a trio of singers.

A fuming @Carmella tweeted: “Every time #TheVoice has a singing group compete against a solo artist it makes me want to stop watching.”

@MilitheMinister asked: “Am I the only one who thinks competing against the Sorelle group in #theVoice is unfair? It’s soloists versus a trio for goodness sake.”

As @LukeEverhart1 complained: “Duos and trios should not be competing against solo artists in #TheVoice It’s forked up!”

A fourth viewer @Marie8541stated: “@chancetherapper I think The Voice should be one voice only – not 3. Just sayin’.” (sic)

An angered @SunbiCindy added: “It is not fair for a single contestant to go up against 3 competitors in a group.”

While @hthrnnclrk suggested: “I think that groups should be a different category/series of the show entirely, thought the same when Girl Named Tom was on.”

Despite the complaints, Sorelle performed their rendition of The Jackson’s Blame It On The Boogie, while Tiana sang God is a Woman by Ariana Grande.

Although both performances impressed the judges, Sorelle ultimately secured their place in the Playoffs.

Speaking on their performance, Chance said: “Sorelle completely blew me away.

“They have beautiful blends and they have stage presence. It sucks the audience in, every time they get up there.”

Also advancing to the Playoffs are Grace West, Holly Brand, Jamar Langely, Michael B Neil Salsich, Rachel Christine and Ross Clayton.

They will join D. Smooth, Manasseh Samone, Ryley Tate Wilson, and Marykate Connor, the four Playoff Pass winners during Battle Rounds.

The Voice continues Mondays on NBC in the USA.
