The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne Spin-Off Unveils Official Title and 1st Teaser at Comic-Con

At the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con, AMC also announces in front of fans that it has handed out renewals to two other ‘TWD’ spin-offs, ‘Dead City’ and ‘Daryl Dixon’.

AceShowbiz -AMC still made a prominent presence at the this year’s San Diego Comic-Con after several studios backed out of the event due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. Hosting “The Walking Dead” Universe Fan Watch Party in Hall H on Friday, July 21, the network treated the crowd with the first teaser for the series’ new spin-off starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira.

The video, drenched in red, opens with a shot of Gurira’s Michonne wielding her recognizable katana as she walks forward out of the darkness. She says in voiceover, “I’ve been out there a long time. I lost someone, years ago. And then things changed. I found out that he’s alive.”

The video then shifts its focus to an exhausted-looking Rick (Lincoln) doing some violent things to survive. The end of the teaser reveals the official title of the show, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live“, which is set to arrive in 2024.

According to the official logline, “the series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

Following the release of the teaser trailer, fans are excited to see their favorite “TWD” characters back. “Rick and Michonne are such a great duo, glad to see more of their story,” a fan commented on the teaser.

“AMC is really going at it with TWD spin-offs. I love how we are getting Daryl Dixon, Dead City Season 2, and a spin-off for Rick and Michonne,” another gushed. A third shared, “Words can’t express how excited I am to see Rick again. There’s something Andrew Lincoln brings to the role that has me mesmerized. Don’t get me wrong I’m loving Dead City and I can’t wait for the Daryl Dixon show but this show is the one I’m looking forward to the most.”

In the ninth season of “The Walking Dead”, Rick was presumed dead. However, in the final season, which aired in 2022, Michonne learned that her spouse isn’t actually dead and it set her quest to find him once again. At Comic-Con 2022, it was announced that Lincoln and Gurira signed on to return for the spin-off centering on their characters.

Also at the 2023 SDCC, AMC announced that it has renewed other spin-offs, “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon“, for a new season each.

“This next chapter in the ‘Walking Dead’ Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for ‘Dead City’ and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September,” said AMC president of entertainment Dan McDermott before the crowd. “We can’t wait to bring ‘Dead City’ fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan.”

He further teased, “And, ahead of its debut, we’re thrilled to double down on Daryl as we bring the apocalypse to France, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard and other iconic locales into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything we’ve seen before.”

“Daryl Dixon”, which stars Norman Reedus and [c=Melissa McBride (Carol), doesn’t premiere until September 10, while “Dead City”, which follows the adventure of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is set to wrap its six-episode first season on Sunday, July 23.
