AMC’s post-apocalyptic series The Walking Dead made its long-awaited return to screens with an action-packed episode. Ahead of its comeback, showrunner Angela Kang spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk and shared her hopes for the show’s final season.

The Walking Dead met its midseason finale in April with fans eagerly awaiting to find out the fate of their favourite characters.

As season 11 will be the final ever instalment of The Walking Dead viewers have been intrigued to find out how the show will come to an end.

The season first premiered in August 2021 and will air its official finale on November 20, with 24 episodes in total, it will be the show’s longest season in its 12-year history.

Throughout the series, the show has accumulated millions of viewers worldwide who were devastated to discover the show would be coming to an end.

As the finale approaches showrunner Angela reflected on the show and detailed her hopes for fans.

She shared: “I hope that they will really enjoy them, we never know, once we make it we’re putting it out into the world and just hoping our best.

“Speaking of the finale, I think it’s a very emotional rollercoaster ride, I think that people will feel a lot of big feelings and that’s always been part of the DNA of the show.”

Since the series began fans have been vocal about the twist, turns and unexpected storylines in the show.

The Walking Dead first established its core following when comic book creator Robert Kirkman first released the graphic novels in 2003.

Alongside artist Tony Moore, the pair worked together on the first 30 comic books until he was replaced by artist Charlie Adlard who took over the remainder of the series.

Robert created 193 issues until the series unexpectedly came to an end in 2019, with the exception of a few specials.

The comic books received critical acclaim and was awarded an Eisner Award in 2010 for Best Continuing Series before being adapted for screens the same year.

The Walking Dead made its long-awaited return with episode 17 on Sunday and gave fans an insight into the disorderly Commonwealth.

Chaos ensued after it was announced a swarm of Walkers were headed toward the town, but residents were unfazed as they protested and demanded justice for Sebastian Milton (Teo Rapp-Olsson) to pay for his crimes.

However, tensions began to rise as the Commonwealth went on lockdown but people refused and continued to protest.

As the swarm of Walkers made their way into the town chaos heightened with people running for survival, but Sebastian emerged and confronted Max Mercer (Margot Bingham).

As she struggled under his grip, Sebastian spotted a Walker approaching and with a sinister smile, he pushed Max in its direction.

While she tried to avoid getting bitten, her boyfriend Eugene spotted her among the commotions and rushed to her aide.

As he ran, he used full force to push the Walker off Max, which worked but then the zombie landed on top of Sebastian.

With a crown forming around him, Sebastian screamed and tried to wrestle the Walker off him but this proved unsuccessful as it took a huge bit out of his neck and ultimately killed him.

The Walking Dead season 11 airs on AMC on Sundays in the US and Disney+ on Mondays in the UK.
