This Morning star sparks fierce debate after admitting he only showers once a week

Matthew Wright sparked a huge debate on This Morning on Tuesday as he revealed he only showers once per week sometimes.

The TV presenter, 57, made the shock confession as he and hosts Phillip Schofield, 60, and Holly Willoughby, 42, discussed a recent study concerning Brits' showering habits.

The study revealed that nearly a third of people have changed their showering habits in a bid to save money on their household bills.

Matthew then admitted his own showering schedule has changed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and told a shocked Phillip that he only showers once a week, or whenever he has human contact or is due to appear on TV.

Matthew shared: "I know that since Covid really, once we were stuck at home, the daily shower went out the window and I hold my hand up, it hasn't really come back.

"I shower for you obviously and then I don't really shower again until I have to see you – or when I next have human contact."

Phillip then exclaimed: "That's a week!" before going on to add more details about the survey.

"Thirty percent of people are changing their showering habits, 27 per cent are worried about how their hygiene routine is affecting their bills, and a third of those cutting back are turning their water off when it's not needed," he said.

Holly added: "Apparently we do shower too much. I get that. Apparently, the natural oils in your skin, by shampooing your hair and using soap, you're destroying that barrier."

The debate comes after Holly shared a rare update about her children on This Morning on Monday, as she revealed her eldest child Harry is volunteering as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award.

Holly, who is mum to Harry, 13, Belle, 11, and Chester, seven with husband Dan Baldwin, and her co-host Phillip Schofield were joined by regular guests Camilla Tominey and Gyles Brandreth to chat about The Big Help Out on the ITV show.

The app, which has been promoted by Faye Winter and Deborah Meaden, matches volunteers with opportunities in areas like elderly care, the environment and animal welfare.

As Gyles urged people to "get out there and think about volunteering" Holly revealed her son is currently doing just that.

Holly explained: “My eldest Harry, he’s volunteering at the moment because he’s doing his bronze Duke of Edinburgh.

“It’s the first time he’s done anything like that, and I tell you what, he’s got a real spring in his step. He goes off, he takes himself there, he goes and does his volunteering, he’s always got something to talk about.

“As much as they get his time, which is helpful and useful, he’s getting so much back himself, and I can see it in him.”

This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV1.
