Waterloo Road viewers switch off seconds in as show makes iconic comeback
Waterloo Road viewers took to social media to share their disappointment in the new series as it made its comeback to our screens.
The BBC show initially aired in 2006 until 2009, when it was first cancelled. The show was recently revived for 2023 and features some of the old cast, including high school sweethearts Donte Charles (Adam Thomas) and Chlo Grainger (Katie Griffiths).
Fans would also be introduced to new characters played by Coronation Street star Kym Marsh, Ryan Thomas' daughter Scarlett who plays Donte and Chlo's daughter, Izzy and The Bill's Lisa Faulkner.

Some fans were thrilled to see the show return and spotted small details that paid homage to the original series, including the first ever song from the old show, the Kaiser Chiefs I Predict A Riot, being blared in the first episode of the new show.
One wrote: "Lovely nod to the past with the use of I Predict a Riot! The first song we ever heard in the original series. #WaterlooRoad."
Others loved the inclusive choices in students and teachers, with one tweeting: "This new series is very similar to the OG except it has more inclusivity and that can only be a better thing. Fast pace and current. What a show #WaterlooRoad."
However, some weren't as happy with the reboot.
One tweeted: "This is not the same Waterloo Road from back in the day! Think I may just stick to working my way through the old episodes! #WaterlooRoad."
A second added: "I’m so disappointed it’s so s***, I wish they’d put more of the OG cast in it #WaterlooRoad."
"#WaterlooRoad #bbc1 I’ve persevered for 20 minutes, but wtf. It has absolutely no resemblance to any school I know. So far removed from reality. Utter rubbish" a third wrote.
Waterloo Road may have introduced some new characters, but fans felt the heartbreak of one of the originals as the series brutally killed off Chloe in the first episode.
Fans have been left heartbroken as the series returned and ditched a firm favourite, with her family now forced to find their way without her.
