Whitney's friends ignore Zack's grief in lost baby messages in EastEnders
Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) has been struggling with her grief since tragically losing daughter Peach in EastEnders, though she is not the only one, as she pointed out in tonight’s episode.
Whitney and Zack Hudson (James Farrar) made the devastating discovery that their baby had Edwards’ Syndrome after undergoing a number of tests.
Edwards’ syndrome is a rare condition that occurs when a baby has three copies of chromosome 18, instead of the usual two.
Baby’s with the condition are unlikely to live past birth, with only about 13 in 100 babies born alive living past their first birthday.
Whitney made the difficult decision to terminate her pregnancy, and delivered baby Peach in Friday’s (March 3) heartbreaking episode.
As a show of support for the grieving mother, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) decided to gather up well-wishes from Whitney’s friends, which she handed over tonight.
Sonia settled down with Whit and Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) for a class of wine, as Whitney read through the kind messages.
However, it wasn’t long before she made a discovery: Only one of the cards mentioned Zack, and it was his sister, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).
Being Peach’s father, Zack was equally as devastated as Whitney after their loss.
Whitney pointed this out to friends Sonia and Chelsea, reflecting on how he was the only other person who knew what it felt like to hold their daughter.
She lamented the fact that she had pushed him away in her grief and now felt as though she had lost him completely.
Will she be able to make amends with Zack so they can support each other through their grief?
