Derek Draper was in hospital for thirteen months, but has since been reunited with her and their children.

How many children does Kate Garraway have?

Kate Garraway shares two children with her husband of more than a decade.

The couple have a daughter called Darcey, who was born on March 10, 2006.

The couple also have a son called William, known as 'Billy', who was born on July 28, 2009.

Darcey and William occasionally appear on Kate's Instagram feed.

The couple first met in 2004 and married in 2005.

They were originally introduced by a mutual friend, former GMTV political editor Gloria De Piero.

Gloria had originally asked Kate whether she had any single friends that would like to meet Derek.

Kate admitted that it took a while for an attraction to happen.

Speaking to The Times about about that moment, Kate said: "Derek arrived thinking it was a date and that I was being incredibly cool by ignoring him.

"He asked me out, but the day of our date called to say he had a clash.

"He’d promised to serve wine at an amateur watercolour painting exhibition at his church. I really thought it was a wind-up.

"But I turned up and he was indeed serving wine to the congregation in a salmon-pink jumper."

August 2022 was the last time Kate gave an update on Derek.

She revealed the former lobbyist was rushed to A&E with sepsis in July 2022 after a raft of serious health issues since he contracted Covid in 2020.

Kate was alerted of his recent change in condition during a live phone call backstage at the Good Morning Britain set.

The host revealed: "The sepsis is under control. One kidney is looking really good, just need to look at the other one.

“We’re back on the right side of it now.”

At the time, Kate went on to thank the public for their messages of support and praised doctors for keeping him alive.

She said: “It’s lovely to be back and thank you for all your good wishes as always, it means everything.”

Kate has juggled caring for Derek with working and looking after their two children, Darcey, and Billy.
