Whoopi Goldberg supports American Idol singer dropping out
Whoopi Goldberg reacts to American Idol contestant walking off show
Sara Beth Liebe auditioned earlier this season and faced some tough comments from pop star and judge Katy Perry, who joked about “laying on the table” when she revealed she was a mother of three. After opening up about being ‘mom-shamed’ on TikTok, the contestant made the difficult decision to drop out of American Idol and has now been supported on The View this week by presenter Whoopi Goldberg.
Goldberg has commended Liebe for making the tough call to drop out of the race after her performance on Sunday night.
The young singer impressed Perry and her fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie with a rendition of Roxanne by The Police.
However, she ultimately decided to exit American Idol as she wanted to return home to her three children.
Her decision came after Perry made derogatory comments about Liebe being a mother of three during her audition.
Now, The View presenter Goldberg has praised Liebe on Tuesday’s episodes, and offered some words of encouragement for her future career.
“You know what, Sara? People have to make decisions, and you made the decision that was right for you,” she said to the camera.
“With that voice, that will not be your only time, and you’re young enough to come back and do it again.
“A lot of people make the same decision that you did. A lot of people do not. And so, you had to go with your heart, and I respect you for it.”
She also noted Liebe will have “other opportunities” after her short-lived stint on the popular competition show.
The singer already has 172.1k followers on her TikTok, but she has decided to put her children first for the time being.
“This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance,” she said on Sunday’s episode.
“Because my heart’s at home. I’m gonna get home to my babies. They kind of need me.”

Later backstage, she said she was “humbled and grateful” for the experience of performing on American Idol.
Perry’s comments also seem to be water under the bridge, as she added: “Katy had some really nice things to say.
“It would be nice if my kids were a little older. I understand how big of an opportunity this is.”
Perry and the judges urged Liebe to stay when she made the announcement, and the Firework singer urged her to keep singing.
“You’ve opened a door you thought you’d never open, and you got a yes,” she told her. “You may get another yes in the future. Don’t give up.”
The View airs weekdays on ABC in the US.
