This weekend, the remaining Strictly Come Dancing contestants will take to the ballroom floor to fight for a place in the final. Will Mellor, Hamza Yassin, Helen Skelton and Fleur East will each perform two routines as they continue to wow the judges with their precision and skill.

Speaking to Janette Manrara on Thursday’s Strictly – It Takes Two, Will and Hamza opened up about how they were feeling at this stage in the competition.

Hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly also appeared on the show to chat about the semi-final.

Will and his dance partner Nancy Xu joined Janette on the sofa to speak about their high scores from the judges last weekend.

The duo scored 39 points, which is the couple’s highest mark of the series.

However, when Janette quizzed Will on whether he will get a perfect score of 40 this weekend, he instantly shut her down.

The Two Pints of Lager star shook his head and waved his hands, indicating he did not want to talk about it over fears of jinxing them.

She said: “You got a 38 for your Charleston, a 39 this weekend, your highest scoring one yet.

“So what do you reckon is going to happen this weekend, Nancy? Do you think we’re gonna get to a 40 maybe?”

Nancy awkwardly laughed as she looked towards Will, who shut down Janette’s question: “Let’s not say anything like that.

“We were happy with what we go, you know what I mean? This week it starts again.”

“It’s not like you carry on from last week,” he said before later adding: “You’ve just got to come again and try your best.”

When speaking about Musicals Week, Nancy and Will admitted it was an “emotional performance” for them both.

He said: “It was just like pretending you were in Miss Saigon for two minutes.

“I was in the show, I was in the moment. I was playing Chris; she was Kim, and it all came together.

“I suppose every dance has its challenges because you just want to deliver what you’re supposed to deliver.

“In this, it had a lot of storytelling. So every time we dance, we just want to give the best of us, that’s all we can do.”

“We both love the song so much,” Nancy chipped in as she explained why she loved teaching the routine.

“I’m enjoying getting to share some of my knowledge with him, and to pass all of my knowledge to him and he absorbs it.

“He was looking at me and he said, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do this and I will make you proud’.”

Strictly – It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
