Yellowjackets stars break down latest heartbreaking death twist
Yellowjackets Season 2 official trailer
*Warning: Yellowjackets season 2 spoilers ahead*
Yellowjackets has somewhat solved a major mystery about what went down in 1996 with another character’s death being revealed… as well as who was responsible.
The series has never been afraid to kill off its cast members, with some futures in the present-day timeline remaining unknown, but as theories and speculation continue to stir, and some of the teens eating a dead friend’s ear, all bets are off.
On Sunday night’s episode, Two Truths And A Lie, a massive explanation behind adult Misty (played by Christina Ricci) and her odd behaviour is finally solved.
She’s responsible for one of the deaths of her best friends while they were trapped in the wilderness all those years ago.
Sadly, in the 1996 timeline, we discover Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman) met her maker at the hands of Misty (Samantha Hanratty), who had smashed up the plane’s emergency radio after the crash.
As the pair bond, they head out together and get caught up in a blizzard, trading secrets to pass the time.
During the chat, things take a dark turn when Misty confesses her secret, and Crystal turns on her, angry that she’s the reason they haven’t been rescued.
Yelling at each other, Misty threatens she’ll “kill her” if she doesn’t keep the secret, and in the panic, Crystal backs away from her friend, and off the edge of a cliff face.

Misty has been harbouring that secret ever since. An outsider of the group at the best of times, the loss of Crystal – arguably her only real friend among the girl gang – takes a massive toll on her.
“I have to care about Misty to play her, so I have a lot of love for her. And my heart kind of broke for her when Crystal does turn on her,” Hanratty told Hollywood Reporter on the reveal.
“Every time we did that scene, I don’t even consider myself a Method actor, but my heart literally would drop every time she rejected me.
“I felt like I was turning into a little kid again. Scrambling to take back what I just did.”
Misty finds herself of an essential part of the group as the gang medic, and her sleuthing skills come in handy in the present day as she continues to protect the group now they’re back in the normal world.
But ultimately the death caused Misty to become more closed off from others, so much so as an adult she has very few real friends and mainly lives an isolated life.
So when her new pal Walter (Elijah Wood) jokes she “could be a killer if she needed to”, it doesn’t exactly go down well.
Despite fans hoping for a romance between Walter and Misty, with the pair heading off on adventures together for the good of the group, it still remains to be seen if he’s safe around her.
Yellowjackets airs Sundays on Showtime in the US, and Paramount+ in the UK.
