A Place in the Sun presenter Leah Charles-King was chatting to house-hunters Lee and Louise to get a feel for what they were looking for in a property. She had been tasked with finding a holiday home for the Warwickshire couple, who were after a three-bed, two-bathroom detached villa with a private pool in Villamartin, on Spain’s Costa Blanca. They hoped to discover their dream for their budget of £212,000. After a brief conversation on the Channel 4 show, Leah commented she was looking forward to the search because the pair seem “easy-going” but Louise quickly dashed her hopes of a simple search.

Ahead of the first property search, Leah asked: “When you’re in Spain what do you like to do?”

“Chill, relax,” Louise replied simply, while Lee added: “lovely meals, nice drinks, a bit of music.”

“Quality time with the family,” Louise continued, keeping the list brief.

“It’s not just two of you that I’ve got to impress, there’s also a seven-year-old, is that correct?” Leah added.

As the couple confirmed their young daughter would be an important factor, the presenter asked: “And do you have other members of the family too who usually holiday with you?”

“Our parents come out quite a lot which is always great for us because it helps with looking after Amy as well, she’s quite an active child,” Lee explained.

When asked about their perfect place, Lee described their dream property.

“A villa, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private pool in a nice location really,” He stated.

“20-minute walk from the beach would be great, 10 or 15 minutes from the nightlife, somehow we’ve got to struggle back home!”

“I know that your budget is £212,000 – good budget, decent budget,” Leah commented.

“You know the next question is going to be… any wriggle room?”

“We can probably go to £220,000 and if we find a perfect place we can up it a tiny bit more than that, but it’d have to be the perfect place,” Lee clarified.

“Okay, you’re spoiling me!” Leah grinned. “You seem to be a very easygoing couple, I’m looking forward to this!”

However, Louise soon corrected her, responding: “You haven’t shown us any properties yet!”

“Ohh! Touché,” the property expert laughed. “Yes, maybe Louise is going to be hot on my heels.”

It turns out Louise’s warning was necessary because Leah later described the search as “very tough”.

At one point, Lee and Louise cancelled one of the searches, stating: “It’s not going to happen.”

It came during the second property search, where Louise commented: “Not feeling it.”

Lee agreed: “No, not at all, there are several reasons, you’re overlooking the wasteland.”

A disappointed Leah asked: “Do you even want to see the rest of this property?” to which Lee responded: “We’re not going to buy it, so there is no point, it’s just not going to happen.”

Ultimately, Louise and Lee didn’t find their holiday home. Despite making a “cheeky” offer in which they went almost £30,000 below the asking price, they were unable to secure their dream property.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
