Boris Johnson went head-to-head with Mâori dancers yesterday as he welcomed his New Zealand counterpart to Downing Street.

The Prime Minister was treated to a full haka experience as Jacinda Ardern made her first visit to London since the end of the pandemic.

Mr Johnson looked relaxed as he and his fellow Prime Minister watched the traditional dance in the No10 garden.

After being given face-to-face greetings, he smiled and applauded as performers from a kapa haka group showcased the routine.

The visit comes after the pair met at the Nato conference in Madrid earlier this week.

Ms Ardern said her trip to the UK and Europe was an ‘incredibly important milestone for us in New Zealand’ and signified ‘we are open for business, for trade, for tourism’.

The country has only recently opened its borders to international visitors, after two years of a strict border policy in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The two leaders agreed to extend the Youth Mobility and Working Holiday schemes and allow more people to visit and work in the two countries.
