  • After pleading guilty, Cardi was sentenced to 15 days community service

Cardi B appeared at Queens Criminal Court Monday to answer to charges that she failed to complete her 15 days of community service as part of a plea deal stemming from the infamous strip club brawl that she was involved in.

Cardi, whose real name is Belcalsi Almanzar, resolved the years long case in September by pleading guilty. Following the sentence, the WAP rapper said: ‘Part of growing up and maturing is being accountable for your actions.’

On Tuesday, the judge in the case gave Cardi until March 1 to complete her sentence. The Bronx-native showed up at court in all white, a color typically associated with innocence and purity.

She wore an oversized fur coat, sleeveless dress, white heels and white rimmed sunglasses for the appearance.

The fight occurred in August 2018. Cardi pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges while ten other counts, including two felonies, were dismissed. Two co-defendants also pleaded guilty.

The plea deal also stipulated that Cardi B supply the court with a DNA sample, and prohibits her from contacting the victims in the case for three years

The court appearance doesn’t seem to have stressed the rapper out too much as she tweeted about her masturbation techniques just hours being due before the judge.

According to prosecutors, Cardi B and her entourage were targeting employees of Angels Strip Club in Flushing, Queens, over an apparent personal dispute.

In one fight, chairs, bottles and hookah pipes were thrown as the group argued with a bartender. She and another employee had minor injuries.

‘No one is above the law,’ Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement at the time of sentencing. ‘In pleading guilty today, Ms. Belcalis Almanzar and two co-defendants have accepted responsibility for their actions. This Office is satisfied with the resolution, which includes appropriate community service.’

In 2019, Cardi B rejected a plea deal that would have given her a conditional discharge. Prosecutors then presented the case to a grand jury and obtained an indictment that included the two felony charges.

‘I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to,’ said Cardi B, adding that she wanted to set a good example for her two children.

‘These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now,’ she added. ‘I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most—the music and my fans.’

Cardi B’s chart-topping hits include I Like It and the Maroon 5 collaboration Girls Like You.

In September 2022, when she pleaded guilty to the charges, Cardi said: ‘I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to’

During sentencing, prosecutors described the melee saying: ‘The victims allegedly had glass bottles hurled at them, alcoholic drinks thrown in their faces and one woman’s head was slammed into the bar.’

In 2019, the rapper pleaded not guilty to felony assault charges relating to the fight. The singer, known for chart-topping hits such as ‘Bodak Yellow’ and ‘I Like It,’ was indicted in 2019 by a grand jury on felony charges along with two other individuals in her entourage.

After receiving her her light penalty for the incident, the rapper headed to Little Italy in Manhattan where she celebrate the decision by devouring an Italian sausage.

Despite her signature look of extremely long nails, Cardi B appeared to have no trouble navigating her soda can and sausage with peppers, to which she deftly added a squirt of mustard before returning to a waiting Cadillac Escalade with the food in hand.

Similar to her attire on Tuesday, Cardi was also dressed all in white that day, albeit with a different hairstyle.

The rapper also said: ‘These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now’

Prosecutors previously described Cardi’s actions during the brawl saying: ‘The victims allegedly had glass bottles hurled at them, alcoholic drinks thrown in their faces and one woman’s head was slammed into the bar’

Cardi’s guilty plea allowed the Grammy-winning star to avoid potentially embarrassing court testimony

Speaking to reporters back in September as she left court, Cardi said: ‘I’m feeling like I look good.’

The plea deal also stipulated that Cardi B supply the court with a DNA sample, and prohibits her from contacting the victims in the case for three years.

Her statement following the sentence read in full: ‘As a mother, it’s a practice that I am trying to instill in my children, but the example starts with me,’ she added.

‘I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I am not afraid to face and own up to. These moments don’t define me and they are not reflective of who I am now,’ said Cardi B.

‘I’m looking forward to moving past this situation with my family and friends and getting back to the things I love the most—the music and my fans.’

She allegedly told eight people, including Tawana Jackson-Morel and Jeffrey Bush, to assault sisters Baddie Gi and Jade.

Just prior to her appearance in court in Queens, Cardi’s interview on The Jason Lee Show podcast dropped.

During the episode, Cardi described the moment that she and husband Offset learned that their friend, Migos member Takeoff, had been killed in Houston.

She said the pair were in bed after deciding not to go out for Halloween.

The Bodak Yellow star says: ‘Offset’s phone kept ringing, my phone kept ringing. Offset picked up the phone and he was just like, ‘No!’ He’s screaming and screaming. He’s screaming like, “No! No! No! No!” He’s like, “TakeOff is dead.”‘

She continued: ‘I smacked him and said, “Don’t say that!” And then he’s just like screaming and throwing things, throwing up, running all over. And I was so scared, I was crying so much. It was terrible.’

In October, Cardi was in court in California where a federal jury rejected claims that Cardi misused a man’s image on the cover of her first 2016 mixtape album.

The cover of Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 did not violate plaintiff Kevin Michael Brophy’s publicity or privacy rights by depicting an altered photo of another man with Brophy’s unique back tattoo performing oral sex on the popular rapper, the Santa Ana jury found after a four-day trial and an afternoon of deliberations.

Brophy’s 2017 lawsuit sought at least $5 million in damages from Cardi B and her ex-manager Klenord Raphael, as well as an order blocking her from using his likeness.

Brophy’s attorney Barry Cappello of Cappello & Noel said in an email to Reuters that Cardi B and Raphael were “gracious winners” and shook hands with Brophy after the verdict.

‘If this chapter can close, it may be best for the Brophy family’s ability to put this behind them,’ Cappello said.
