Denver weather: 10 inches of snow falls in Denver suburbs as cold stays
After nearly a foot of snow fell in parts of the western Denver suburbs Thursday, the snowfall will wind down Friday morning and turn into just flurries by 8 a.m.
Even as the snow stops falling, cold temperatures Friday and a high of 23 degrees mean the snow on the ground will stick around for a while, causing some hazardous and slick road conditions during the morning commute and even delaying or closing several metro Denver school districts.
Northwest Golden saw the most snow in the Denver area, with 11.3 inches recorded by 12:50 a.m. near North Table Mountain. Northwestern Arvada also saw double digit snow totals, with 10.9 inches recorded by 5:51 a.m. near Standley Lake.
Elsewhere in the metro, Denver received about two inches of snow by 11:59 p.m., Westminster received four inches by 8 p.m. and Boulder received 3.3 to 9.7 inches by 4:55 a.m.
Friday morning, National Weather Service radar shows a swath of light snow continuing eastward across the Denver and Boulder areas. Light snow would continue in the area before gradually waning away to flurries by 8 a.m.
A few showers could linger into the afternoon, but Friday afternoon will be mainly sunny.
Into the evening and night, temperatures will drop down to single-digit lows near 8 degrees.
On Saturday, a warming trend begins that will continue through next week. Temperatures return to a high of 41 degrees and a low of 18 degrees; some areas that received more snow could remain slightly colder.
Then Sunday and Monday will both be sunny and have highs in the low 50s and low temperatures in the 20s.
Most of next week will also have sunny days with highs in the 40s and 50s, with a Thanksgiving Day forecast of sunny and a high of 47 degrees.
