Denver weather: Rain and cool temperatures to end the week

After blistering temperatures last week and a warm start to this one, Thursday’s forecast will provide relief from the heat, bringing to Denver much cooler and wetter weather.

Storms are likely throughout much of the state, prompting the National Weather Service to warn of possible flash flooding from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the burn areas of Cameron Peak, East Troublesome, Calwood and Williams Fork.

Forecasters expect a very high likelihood of rain on Thursday, estimating an 80% chance of precipitation. Temperatures are not expected to exceed 78 degrees, an especially low high.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day.

Mild winds of 6 to 8 mph are expected to blow southeast after noon.

Overnight, temperatures will drop to a low of about 61 amid cloudy conditions and a 60% chance of precipitation.

Friday’s forecast will also be cool and wet.

The high for Friday is 81. Both rain and thunderstorms are again likely at 70%.

Temperatures are to drop to a low of around 59. With a 20% chance of rain, the weather service says conditions will start mostly cloudy and then slowly clear up as the night progresses.

Weather for Thursday and Friday will let the Denver metro cool down while bringing some moisture to the area before things heat up again during the weekend, bringing temperatures that could hit 87 Saturday and 90 Sunday.
