Dolly Parton says she has a secret song buried at Dollywood, can't dig it up until she's 99
Dolly Parton has a fantastic new song. Trouble is, you’ll have to wait 23 years to hear it.
“The Kelly Clarkson Show” released a new clip of the “Jolene” singer’s recent appearance on the daytime talk show. Speaking to Clarkson, Parton revealed she wrote a top-secret song that’s currently buried in a time capsule.
“That has (driven) me crazy,” Parton said. “I have written a song that nobody’s going to hear until I’m 99 years old. I might be there, I might not be.”
The track was written for the 2015 opening of Parton’s Dollywood DreamMore resort, an adjacent hotel to her longstanding Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The country legend says she placed the song in a box along with a CD player and cassette player, but the box won’t be reopened until 2045, when the resort celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Parton, now 76, will be 99 when the time comes. She worries the music will “rot” in the capsule before it gets opened.
“I don’t know whose damn idea that was,” Parton said. “They weren’t expecting me to be there at all and I probably won’t be. I might be there, who knows. I figure it’ll probably disintegrate and nobody will ever hear it.”
Adding to her frustration: She really likes the mystery tune.
“I wanna dig that up so bad,” Parton said. “I need to use that song because, you know, it’s a really good song!”

Although it’ll be a long time before this particular track sees the light of day, Parton is planning to tide fans over with a new rock album inspired by her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last month.
Parton spoke about the new project during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” earlier this month, telling the late-night host that the album is called “Rock Star” and will be out next fall.
“My husband is a rock ‘n’ roll freak,” Parton explained. “So I thought, ‘Well, if I’m ever gonna do it, now’s the time.’ “

The album will include a few original songs as well as covers of classic rock anthems by Prince, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was also feature some surprise guest artists.
“We’re gonna have a lot of great iconic songs,” Parton teased. ” ‘Purple Rain,’ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,’ ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Free Bird.’ I even did ‘Free Bird!’ “
Later this month, Parton will join goddaughter Miley Cyrus to co-host “Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party,” a song-filled special airing live on NBC Dec. 31. The singers will be joined by musical artists including Sia and Rae Sremmurd, as well as cast members from NBC sketch series “Saturday Night Live.”
