Drunken man threatened to ‘take out’ police officers with ‘bomb in rucksack’
A man who threatened to "take out" two police officers with a bomb in his rucksack has been jailed.
Marc MacLellan from Wensleydale, Hertfordshire approached his local police station at about 8pm on June 2.
The 40-year-old spoke to several members of the public outside the station, telling them he was "going to take out two police officers", HertforshireLive reports.
Officers subsequently approached MacLellan, who hurled his rucksack at them while telling them that it contained a bomb, adding that he had another bomb concealed nearby.
MacLellan was subsequently arrested, and a search found no bombs either in the rucksack or nearby.
He was charged the following day on June 3 and remanded in custody, and went on to plead guilty to the charge of bomb hoax, communicating false information.
MacLellan appeared at St Albans Crown Court on August 3, where he was sentenced to eight months in prison.
The court heard that MacLellan was remorseful for his actions, saying that he was drunk and was unable to remember any of the incident.
Superintendent Clare Smith, of the Local Policing Command, called the incident "serious" as the threats caused "great concern" among residents close to the scene.

She said: “This was a serious incident during which highly concerning comments were made to officers during the course of their duties.
"The threats made would have caused great concern to anyone who heard them, including members of the public and both officers and staff working at Hemel police station.
“Threats of this kind will not be tolerated and the seriousness of the offence has seen MacLellan removed from the community and imprisoned.”
