Eco-idiots hurl MASH POTATOES over £100million Monet painting & glue themselves to wall in daft stunt | The Sun
TWO eco-idiots have hurled mash potatoes over a £100million Clade Monet masterpiece before gluing themselves to the wall.
The pair, part of the 'Letzte Generation' (Last Generation) climate activist group, pelted the watery spuds at the Les Meules painting.
They had entered the Barberini Museum in Potsdam, Germany, on Sunday wearing hi-vis vests before their daft stunt.
Museum-goers watched in horror as the painting – which sold for £100million at auction in 2019 – was smothered in mash.
It remains unclear if the artwork was damaged or if it is behind protective glass.
A spokesperson for the German eco group said of the mashed potatoes fiasco: "We make this #Monet the stage and the public the audience.

"If it takes a painting – with #MashedPotatoes or #TomatoSoup thrown at it – to make society remember that the fossil fuel course is killing us all: Then we'll give you #MashedPotatoes on a painting!"
The duo then glued themselves to the wall as part of their protest, in what appears to be a copycat of the antics at the National Gallery in London last week.
Following the incident, Letzte Generation wrote in a tweet: "We are asking society the same question as 2 women with #Tomatensuppe at London's National Gallery last week: What is worth more, art or life?
"More and more people refuse to accept the destruction and endangerment of human beings, to accept life in silence."

The Just Stop Oil activists – named as Anna Holland, 20, and 21-year-old Phoebe Plummer – chucked tomato soup over Van Gogh's famous Sunflowers painting.
They were arrested for criminal damage and aggravated trespass but both eco-zealots pleaded not guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
Their trial date is set for December 13 at the City of London Magistrates' Court.
