- Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was seen out in Santa Barbara, California, on Monday for the first time since ex Anne Heche’s near-fatal crash in Los Angeles
- DeGeneres, 64, who famously dated Heche in the 90s after coming out, said the two no longer talk and she’s unaware of her ex’s current condition
- Heche suffered major injuries and burns after the crash caused a blaze that took 59 firefighters more than an hour to extinguish
- Heche is reportedly in critical condition and remains in the ICU
- A GoFundMe page has been set up for the woman who lost her home in the crash as police suspect Heche was drunk and driving 90mph during the incident
Ellen DeGeneres was spotted out with a friend for the first time since her ex Anne Heche nearly lost her life after crashing into a Los Angels home going 90 mph.
The popular talk show host was out with a friend at the True Lune restaurant, in Santa Barbara, California, on Monday, pictured in a navy blue wardrobe.
DeGeneres, 64, who dated Heche in the 90s, wore a collared polo shirt, pinstripe shorts and grey sneakers while coming out the restaurant.
Her companion, an older man, wore a white T-shirt, jean shorts and flipflops.
When asked about Heche, 53, who is currently hospitalized and suspected of being drunk when she drove her Mini Cooper into a woman’s home last Friday, DeGeneres said she’s unaware of her condition as the two no longer talk.
‘We are not in touch with each other, so I would not know’, she said, but still wished for her ex’s speedy recovery. ‘I don’t want anyone to be hurt.’

The home of Lynne Mishele was destroyed by a blaze after Heche ran her Mini Cooper into the building at speeds nearing 90 miles per hour, according to police. The resulting blaze took 59 firefighters more than an hour to extinguish.
As a result of the fire, Heche – who is best known for her relationship with DeGeneres and her acting roles in the 1990s – was taken to a local hospital and intubated. She remains in the ICU.
Heche is now said to be ‘critical condition’ following the fiery crash, a rep for the actor said in a statement to Deadline.
‘At this time, Anne is in extreme critical condition. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention,’ a rep for the actor said in a statement.
‘She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident,’ it added.
Mishele managed to escape, shaken but unhurt.
A GoFundMe page set up for her says that Mishele’s home was ‘immediately red-tagged’ after crews extinguished the fire – meaning the home was listed as unsafe to return to until repairs can be made.
Mishel said she initially thought that something had fallen from the sky and exploded into her house, neighbor David Manpearl told DailyMail.com.
‘She’s lucky to be alive. She was shaking when she told me she had just been in the living room right where the car had crashed,’ he said.
Just minutes before Heche careered into the nearly 70-year-old home, the Donnie Brasco star was pictured after crashing into a different garage further up the same street.
Shortly before destroying Mishele’s house, Heche’s blue Mini Clubman was shown on a doorbell camera speeding past a home along South Walgrove Avenue in the Mar Vista neighborhood.
A picture taken before her first crash also showed Heche with what appeared to be a bottle of vodka in the cup holder of her Mini ahead of the horrific second smash.
Authorities had to use a crane to pull Heche out from the flaming vehicle, a neighbor who witnessed the crash told NBC 4.
On Friday, Heche crashed her car into the downtown Los Angeles home of Lynne Mishele

In a tweet, the LAFD said that it took 59 firefighters about 65 minutes to put out the blaze. The home is now ‘uninhabitable’
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the crash caused ‘structural compromise and erupting in heavy fire’ following the crash
In a report from the scene prior to Heche’s extraction around 11:30 am, Fox 11’s Stu Mandel said: ‘If there’s somebody alive in there this is going to be a miracle’
Aerial footage later showed her bursting through the straps in a white bag before writhing in pain on a stretcher as she was bundled into an ambulance and rushed to a local ICU.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to put out the ‘stubborn flames’ and ‘rescue one female adult found within the vehicle.’
Jaw-dropping pictures from the scene showed the burnt out hull of the car as it was recovered from the hedge before being towed away by the authorities.
‘We really had a multifaceted incident here,’ LAFD Capt. Erik Scott said. ‘We had a significant traffic collision, we had entrapment of a woman inside that, we had car that erupted into fire, and then we had a home that had significant fire that is red tagged. It’s at this point destroyed.’
Ex-boyfriend Thomas Jane, 53, paid an emotional tribute to her, saying despite the fact they are no longer together he offers her his ‘thoughts and prayers’ and credited her ‘one of the true talents of her generation’.
Heche is a mother to two sons – Homer, with cameraman ex-husband Coleman Luffoon, as well as Atlas, who she had with former boyfriend James Tupper.

The couple dated as recently as 2020 and had even bought a house together. They had known each other for more than a decade and had co-starred as an acrimoniously divorced couple in Hung from 2009 to 2011.

‘Fresno was the culmination of a journey and a world that I thought I needed to escape to in order to find love.’
Shortly after the couple dated, the director tied the knot to Coley Laffoon. They also share 20-year-old son Homer Laffoon.
Heche’s divorce from the cameraman was finalized in 2009, two years after they initially ended their romance. The blonde later started dating Men In Trees co-star James Tupper in 2007, before they split in 2018.

Her fame only increased when she started dating talk show host Ellen DeGeneres from 1997, before they split in 2000.
She told in a previous interview how she felt shunned by Hollywood when she turned up to the premiere of Volcano in 1997.
Heche claimed: ‘I didn’t do a studio picture for 10 years. I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture.’

Heche has stated that all of her other romantic relationships have been with men.
The ex files: Heche tied the knot to cameraman Coley Laffoon a year after breaking up from Ellen, but their divorce was finalized in 2009 (pictured in 2004)
After reportedly leaving DeGeneres for Coleman ‘Coley’ Laffoon in 2000, on September 1, 2001, Heche married the cameraman whom she met the previous year on DeGeneres’ stand-up comedy tour. They share a son.
Laffoon filed for divorce in February 2007, after five years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in 2009.
Heche reportedly left her husband for Men in Trees co-star James Tupper and in December 2008 she got pregnant with their first child. Tupper and Heche separated in 2018.
Heche has also previously been open about her battles with substance abuse.
‘I drank. I smoked. I did drugs. I had sex with people. I did anything I could to get the shame out of my life,’ she told ABC News a September 2001 interview.
She said her choices were because of a painful childhood in which she was sexually abused by her father, Donald Heche.
‘I’m not crazy, but it’s a crazy life. I was raised in a crazy family and it took 31 years to get the crazy out of me.’
Heche’s first starring role came in the 1998 romantic adventure Six Days, Seven Nights, where she appeared opposite Harrison Ford, portraying a New York City journalist ending up with a pilot, played by Ford in a deserted island following a crash landing. Six Days, Seven Nights received mixed reviews
She was cast in the film one day before her same-sex relationship with Ellen DeGeneres went public.
Although Heche was cast in a second starring role shortly thereafter as Vince Vaughn’s love interest in the 1998 drama Return to Paradise, she felt that her relationship with DeGeneres destroyed her prospects as a leading woman.
Her 1998 films remain the only theatrically released films in which she played a leading role.
Heche was chosen by People as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in that year.
Most of her roles in the early 2000s and 2010s were in independent films and television dramas. She also took on a role on Broadway in a play.
She has also featured in I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Six Days, Seven Nights (1998) and Return to Paradise (1998).
