Envelopes stuffed with cash posted through letterboxes in time for Christmas

A generous stranger in Nottingham has been spreading goodwill this Christmas by anonymously posting envelopes stuffed with cash through people's letterboxes.

The envelopes appeared to be delivered to households at random across the neighbourhood of Clifton on Friday, December 23 and had the phrase 'random act of kindness' across them and each contained a liberal £100

Sarah Lynne was lucky enough to receive an envelope, and the nurse practitioner said she was overwhelmed by the kind act.

She told Metro : "It was my son that first discovered the envelope, he came running to me at first shouting 'is it from Santa?'.

"He handed me the envelope and I was overwhelmed to be honest.

"Things like this never really happen for me. I’ve seen people post it over the years and have always thought it was such a lovely gesture, especially this year it will really help."

"Whoever it is that does it is a hidden hero and has the kindest of hearts.

The 29-year-old added: "With everything happening in the world right now, it’s just nice to know there are still good people, it’s really heart warming."

The mum went on to say she would spend some of the money on treats for her sons, top up her energy for the Christmas period, and buy food to donate to food banks.

Another Clifton resident Peter Dennis told Metro his wife found one of the envelopes while he was out of the house, and that the kind act touched her as she was going through a difficult time.

The 40-year-old said: "She [Peter's wife] was very emotional as to be expected, as she’s not been in a good way lately as Christmas time is hard for her as her dad passed away a couple of years back.

"She noticed a car outside on the CCTV and thought it was a little strange in the way it parked up as she didn’t recognise it.

"Then a girl walked to the door and posted the envelope, but by the time my wife got to the door it had driven off.”

Peter and his wife, Lindsay will also top up their gas meter and spend the rest on a meal out with their son, who recently turned 11.

The generous act appears to becoming somewhat of a tradition in the area. Anonymously delivered envelopes also filled with cash previously appeared in people's letterboxes in 2020 and 2021 – which Peter and his wife learned about through social media.

He said: "We both saw this happen over Facebook last year- it also happened to my auntie which we thought was nice but I never expected this to happen to us.

"I’m still shocked to think that someone would give away their hard earned money to complete strangers, especially with the cost of living nowadays.

"They are angels."
