Errol Musk reveals how Elon didn't eat for 4 days on 'trip to emerald mine' despite Tesla king disputing its existence | The Sun

ELON Musk visited the disputed emerald mine his dad owned in a daring trip that saw the tech billionaire travel without his passport and go days without food, his father has claimed.

The Tesla CEO, 51, has previously disputed the claim that his dad owned the mine in Zambia.

Last month, he offered a million Dogecoin ($93,000 at the time) to anyone who could prove its existence.

But in an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, Errol Musk said Elon actually went with him on a trip to the mine in the Lake Tanganyika region to pick up a cargo of emeralds and fly them back to their native South Africa.

Errol said:  “I visited the mine once, Elon came with me. It was lousy.

“There was nothing to eat except stamp mielies [ground dried corn].

“Elon never ate anything for four days in a row.”

Despite repeatedly saying that there is “no evidence” of an emerald mine, Elon reportedly confirmed that he visited it when he was 15.

According to fact-checking website Snopes, Elon said in a since-deleted interview with Forbes in July 2014: “This is going to sound slightly crazy, but my father also had a share in an Emerald mine in Zambia.

“I was 15 and really wanted to go with him but didn’t realize how dangerous it was.

“I couldn’t find my passport, so I ended up grabbing my brother’s – which turned out to be six months overdue.

“So, we had this planeload of contraband and an overdue passport from another person.”

'HAULED BEFORE AUTHORITIES'

Explaining how Elon’s passport issues landed them in trouble, Errol told The U.S. Sun that he briefed his son as he prepared for a night landing at Rand Airport in Johannesburg.

He says that he told Elon: “This is what we will do – I'm gonna lower the door when I taxi I’ll slow right down then you jump out in the dark and run through a hole in the fence that I knew about. Then you come through the front entrance as if you are meeting me.”

But when Errol reported to immigration he turned to see Elon behind him.

The retired electromechanical engineer said: “When I asked him why he hadn’t listened to me, he told me: ‘I don’t want to do something that's not right.’”

Errol says it landed them in hot water when the following day, they were hauled into an inquiry by the immigration authorities where their excuses were not accepted.

“We ate humble pie and luckily got away with just a fine,” he added.

Experienced pilot Errol also told how he would fly into Zambia on the down-low to pick up emeralds.

He said: “I was literally flying under the radar, hugging the border between Zimbabwe and Botswana so I wouldn't have to tell their air traffic controllers that I was in their air space. Then, I’d return along the same route carrying rough emeralds.”

Errol previously told The U.S. Sun last month how locals were employed to dig out emeralds deep in the Zambian bush.

Earlier this month The U.S. Sun revealed how a chance meeting while trying to sell his private jet led Errol to the emerald mine.

Earlier this year, Errol told The U.S. Sun that his son is a big fan of French Emperor Napoleon and believed the internet would have been invented by the year 1900 if the legendary general hadn’t been defeated.

In September last year, The U.S. Sun revealed how Errol killed three armed intruders Clint Eastwood-style in South Africa in 1998 while his then six-year-old daughter Ali clung to his leg.

Errol said Ali later told a trauma psychologist that she felt OK about the shooting "because my dad won.”

Also last year, The U.S. Sun revealed Errol’s claim that he had fathered a second child with his stepdaughter, Jana, and that he had been asked to donate his sperm to impregnate high-class women in Colombia.

The U.S. Sun also reported Errol's claim that Elon told him he was "real busy" after he announced his first kid with Jana in 2018 and how he believes Elon would make a good president despite being naïve.

Elon did not respond to a request for comment about his father’s claims about the emerald mine.
