Female bodybuilder shot four times by muscle-bound partner after blazing row

A woman has been left in critical condition after her boyfriend allegedly shot her four times during a heated row.

The bodybuilding couple had a blazing row in the flat in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil on February 23.

During the altercation Weldrin Lopes de Alcântara, 44, allegedly shot Ellen Cristina Otoni Campos, 37, four times.

Despite her injuries, Campos managed to exit the flat and find help before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Reports by local media claim the 37-year-old had been waiting outside the flat’s front door for two hours before the dispute.

Residents of the apartment block then report hearing a fight, followed by about seven shots.

Alcântara initially attempted to flee by car, but when the electric gate failed to open, he took off on foot.

He remained on the run for several days before turning himself into the police on February 27.

Alcântara told police that Campos recorded their heated row and that she had threatened to kill him before he shot her.

In the footage, she can be heard yelling: "I despise you. Listen to what I'm telling you. I will kill you. I will burn you alive. I hate you."

He is claiming he acted in self-defence, adding that they were no longer in a relationship when she showed up at his home.

Local media quoted him as saying: "She showed up at my house unexpectedly. I wasn't expecting Ellen there.

"We had a few encounters. We hooked up several times, but it never went beyond that, precisely because she's a very aggressive and violent person.

"When I said I wanted to distance myself, she would threaten me and threaten herself. She even threatened my three-year-old son."

The boy is believed to have been at the scene at the time of the shooting.

At the time of reporting, Ellen remained in hospital following an operation.

Doctors said she suffered wounds to the left side of her jaw, the back of her head, her left shoulder, and her left thigh.

Police seized a .38 calibre revolver from the apartment.

The victim is the niece of Reimont Luiz Otoni Santa Barbara – a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil for the Workers' Party.

He wrote online: "Last year, violence numbers hit a record high. This shows us that we need to fight tirelessly for the strengthening of public policies that embrace, defend, and raise awareness. It's about women's lives.

"I ask everyone to root for the quick recovery of my dear Ellen and all women who are victims of sexism."
