Ford to cut 1,300 UK jobs to slash costs
Ford to cut 1,300 jobs in the UK in bid to slash costs and accelerate its switch to electric vehicle production
- The American carmaker is cutting 3,800 jobs across the continent
- It is part of a shift to a ‘smaller, more focused’ range of electric cars in Europe
Ford is axing more than 1,000 jobs in the UK in a bid to cut costs and speed up its switch to electric vehicles.
The American carmaker is shifting to a ‘smaller, more focused’ range of electric cars in Europe – and cutting 3,800 jobs across the continent. Of these, 1,300 will be in the UK, mostly from its research site in Dunton, Essex.
Of the 1,300 jobs going, 1,000 will be high-paying roles in design, engineering, research and development. The other 300, also mainly at Dunton, will be administrative jobs, some from an office in Stratford.
Local MP John Baron said it was ‘disappointing’ that Ford was reducing staff at Dunton.
He added: ‘I know it will be a worrying time for my constituents who are employed there.’
