The incident comes days after the mother of a 10-year-old boy who died after being mauled by a dog called for a change in the law, saying ‘enough is enough’.

Emma Whitfield, 32, is calling for ‘Jack Lis Law’, named after her son.

He suffered catastrophic injuries after being mauled by a seven stone XL Bully after going to a house to play in South Wales on November 8, 2022.

Neighbours rushed to help and tackle the vicious dog but it was not enough as tragically, Jack died at the scene.

Ms Whitfield is backing the campaign to overhaul the Dangerous Dogs Act. She wants to see tougher penalties on dangerous dog owners considered as well as stronger rules to stop illegal and irresponsible breeding and selling.

Downing Street previously said a working group involving the police, councils and animal welfare experts is looking at ways to reduce dog attacks and promote responsible ownership.

‘There have been some horrific cases and our thoughts and sympathies are with those that have been affected,’ the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said.

‘We know dog attacks can lead to tragic consequences and that’s why we have a number of measures in place to protect people.’
