Harry channels his inner joker as he swigs tequila in latest interview
Harry channels his inner joker as he jokes about his ‘frozen penis’, swigs tequila and refers to empty chair as the ‘spare’ in Stephen Colbert interview after coming under fire for ‘moaning’ in publicity blitz for memoirs
- The duke’s latest interview was far more relaxed than his other recent sit-downs
- He received cheers and a standing ovation from the audience on The Late Show
- Harry joked with the crowd, at one point saying: ‘This is a bit like group therapy’
Prince Harry tried to channel his inner joker after days of ‘moaning’ by swigging tequila and joking with a studio audience in his latest appearance to promote his controversial memoir.
In a far more relaxed sit-down than his discussions with Tom Bradby and Anderson Cooper, the Duke of Sussex received huge cheers as he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert overnight.
As hardback copies of his autobiography, Spare, finally hit store shelves yesterday, Harry came under fire from some readers for ‘moaning’ in his recent publicity blitz as well as in the book itself.
But the tone of his latest interview appeared to be much lighter, with the duke making the host laugh at the start of the show by labelling the extra chair next to him in the studio as ‘the spare’.

Colbert then asks him about the ‘lot of different names’ he is referred to in the book – including his birth name Henry, Harold, as he is sometimes referred to by King Charles and Prince William, H and Haz, which the hosts jokes: ‘Is that short for hazardous?’
The duke replies: ‘My wife calls me Haz, so you can’t call me Haz,’ before reeling off his full list of nicknames: ‘Harry, Haz, Baz, Bazza, Spike, Bazzarooney, it’s all there.’
After introducing the book, Colbert then offers Harry a cocktail, telling him: ‘I hear you like tequila.’
As the audience cheers and applauds, Harry turns and points to them and asks: ‘Does he ever make you guys a drink or not? Everyone wants a drink, everybody wants a drink.’
The presenter replies: ‘They’re already on your side, man, you don’t have to get them drunk.’
On several occasions throughout the 40-minute broadcast, the pair are seen ‘clinking’ their glasses together, to more cheers from the audience.
As the prince reflects on his decision to leave the UK for California with wife Meghan, Colbert asks him: ‘Do you think the intent was to make her leave or to break her spirit so she would be easier to control?’
As the crowd falls quiet, Harry looks at them and chuckles before replying: ‘This is a little bit like group therapy. You didn’t know, did you? You’re sitting there going ‘I’ve got dinner reservations, what is this’?’
The duke and the host then hold hands across the table and look into each other’s eyes as the audience laughs and applauds.

Later, when audible sympathy is heard from someone across the studio, Harry interrupts and says: ‘I heard someone go ‘aww’… Whoever that was, thank you, I will give you a hug later,’ before turning to the audience and joking: ‘Stop doing that.’
Harry was then quizzed by Colbert about his trip to the North Pole where his penis was frost-nipped.
The host says: ‘You write a lot about your brother. You write about him with love. You call him Willy. But there is a different Willy that also gave you some pain and trouble…frostnip on a delicate part of your anatomy.’
Harry replies, referring to the audience: ‘Now they’re interested,’ to which Colbert asks: ‘Can you explain how it is that the Royal Standard got frost-nipped?’
The duke asks the CBS host ‘can I have a drink?’ before adding: ‘How long have you been waiting to ask that question?’.
He then added: ‘We’ve taken quite a leap from grief and trauma to my todger.’
Harry then appeared to use an expletive which was bleeped out by the show when describing a piece of equipment he did not have on his expedition to the North Pole.
