A prisoner at a jail that houses some of the UK’s most dangerous inmates sparked mayhem after climbing onto the roof to sunbathe in his underpants.
The man, who appears to be wearing just black underwear and a pair of trainers, has engaged riot police in a tense standoff at HMP Frankland in County Durham.
Photos show him apparently carrying a crowbar as he sits on top the building and waving a shirt around like a flag.
Three officers and a negotiator have been dealing with the incident since around 7pm, The Mirror reported. Officials are ‘urgently’ working to bring him down from the roof.
The notorious jail, about five miles outside of the picturesque Durham city, is home to 850 inmates, who are Category A, Category A High Risk and Category B, across eight wings.

Few details are known about the incident, but the Mirror reported that at 10pm the standoff was still ongoing.
A prison spokesperson told the news outlet: ‘Staff are urgently working to bring the prisoner down safely.’
MailOnline approached the Ministry of Justice for comment.

Previous inmates at HMP Frankland include Charles Bronson, who earned a reputation as a violent and dangerous inmate and Michael Adebolajo, who was convicted of the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby.
It also housed former Met Police officer Wayne Couzens, who is serving life for the murder of Sarah Everard, Soham child killer Ian Huntley and Levi Bellfield, who murdered 13-year-old Milly Dowler and 22-year-old Amelie Delagrange.
Serial killers Peter Sutcliffe and Harold Shipman also spent time behind bars at the jail before their deaths.
