Influencer who swore by ‘poisonous horse paste’ dies from ‘wonder drug’ effects

An influencer who took a daily dose of a dangerous horse drug conspiracy theorists hailed as a coronavirus cure has died.

Danny Lemoi took to Telegram to claim that he was taking his daily does of ivermectin, an veterinary wormer, around 7am on March 3.

And just a few hours later, he was found dead – news that has sparked panic from followers concerned about pain they fear may be caused by the drug.

He wrote, in what is now his final post: " “HAPPY FRIDAY ALL YOU POISONOUS HORSE PASTE EATING SURVIVORS!!!”

Lemoi was one of the most vocal members of the movement urging everyone to take the drug used on horses and cows during the pandemic.

Anti-vaxxers claimed that it could cure the disease – without any evidence whatsoever.

Close friends claimed that he died of “natural causes” due to excessive heart growth, which is a potential side-effect of taking the drug on a regular basis.

A Telegram post written after his death said: “Though it was obvious that Danny had the biggest heart, it was unbeknownst to him that his heart was quite literally overworking and overgrowing beyond its capacity – nearly doubled in size from what it should have been.

“Yes, he had labs done as recently as last year and because they raised no red flags, no further testing was believed to be necessary.

“Danny was fully convinced that his heart had regenerated after his incident with Lyme Disease that almost ended in congestive heart failure three times nearly six years ago – however, a family history of heart disease and chronic stress had been silently working against his best efforts to maintain his health.

“All of his other organs were unremarkable, and this was determined to be a death by unfortunate natural causes.

“Due to Danny’s distrust in doctors and a history of medical trauma, we cannot hold him accountable for not following up on his health although we are absolutely devastated that this had been going on.”

Ivermectin is usually used to treat parasitic diseases in large animals, and anti-vaxxers commonly claimed that Covid-19 was a parasite – hence why they were taking the dangerous drug not actually made for humans.

Shortly after his death, the Telegram group descended into chaos, Vice News reports, as some members claimed that the drug caused his death – while others blamed “failed western medicine”.

Other Lemoi followers complained of pain from the drug too, including one who posted: “I’m 4 months now and all hell’s breaking loose, all pain has hit my waist down with sciatic, shin splints, restless leg syndrome, tight sore calves & it feels like some pain in the bones."
