Met Office warning: Nine areas facing lighting and heavy showers in hours
UK weather: Met Office forecasts possible thunderstorms
The Met Office has issued nine seperate yellow weather warnings across the UK, as Brits prepare for brutal downpours and lightning storms.
Eastern areas of Scotland, as well as Northumberland, are set to experience some of the most extreme conditions which are expected to set in from noon and finish at 6pm.
There is also a weather warning in place for south Wales and the west coast of England, starting from noon and finishing at 7pm.
The Met Office warned: “There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.
The meteorologists also warned that there could be “delays to train services”.
There could be “some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes”.
