Two court officers have split the internet after going viral for failing to open the door for ex-president Donald Trump as he entered the courtroom.

Despite being a former president, it is unusual for court staff to open doors for defendants as they entered – though it is not clear if the officers missed who was coming behind them or not.

However one of the officers, who have not yet been identified, then seemed to lead the way and point Trump towards the door. 

Many have poked fun at Trump for having to open the door for himself, with one person saying they wanted to buy them ‘lunch’ while another joked they would take them out for a beer.

Others said that it was the ‘first time a cop has done anything cool in years’, as the court staff entered the building with Trump.

Another said: ‘Classic… The New York Police has zero chill’ as many celebrated seeing the former president look so uncomfortable as he walked into court.

But pro-Trump supporters were outraged that the door was allegedly ‘shut’ on the former president, with one calling the officers a ‘b******d’.

Another added: ‘B******t, the officer even didn’t hold Trump’s door open’ with a third saying: ‘The door closed on Trump. Nobody even held it open for him.’

But others were quick to joke about his age, writing: ‘This the only time I agree with not holding doors for my elders!!’

A video has resurfaced of Trump telling officers to not be ‘too nice’ when arresting criminals – pointing out that there was a stark difference between how he was treated in the courtroom.

His courtroom moment with the court officers went viral after he became the first US President to be charged with a criminal offense. 

He pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records as he faced a New York judge on Tuesday.

Others joked that the officers had ‘no chill’ while another said it was the first ‘cool’ thing that cops had done in years

One of the officers, who have not yet been identified, then seemed to lead the way and point Trump towards the door.

Trump, 76, sat alongside his defense team in the Manhattan courtroom with his hands folded on his lap and a stony-faced look for the unprecedented hearing in the Stormy Daniels hush money case.

The charges are related to a $30,000 payoff to a doorman who was trying to sell information about a child that Trump allegedly fathered out of wedlock; $150,000 to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, and a $130,000 payment to Daniels.

All together the charges – falsifying business records in the first degree – carry a maximum sentence of more than 100 years in prison under New York law.

But, even if convicted on all charges, it’s unlikely Trump would be sentenced to that much time.

Each charge is a low level felony that carries a maximum of four years in prison for each count.

However some were outraged by the treatment of the former president, calling the officer a ‘b*****d’

There was no formal conspiracy charge but the state of facts released by prosecutors describes how Trump ‘orchestrated a scheme’ with others ‘to influence the 2016 presidential election by identifying and purchasing negative information about him to suppress its publication and benefit the Defendant’s electoral prospects.’

The hearing lasted about an hour, with Judge Juan Merchan not putting a gag order on Trump as expected – but did warn him not to post anything on social media that could cause unrest.

The former president was silent as he entered the courtroom and then as he left, and was released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to return to his Mar-a-Lago home and speak later Tuesday night, about 8:15 pm ET. The next court hearing is set for December 4th.
